Lunch with ChevyBill (pics)
Well, I got to have lunch with another Mississippi guy today.
ChevyBill was in town at the local driveline shop, so I caught up to him and finally met the mysterious man from Calhoun City (whever the crap that is) Krue will know....it's close enough to STATE that the guy actually went there (but I took him to lunch anyway!) Anywho, naturally we called GMan and asked him to join us for a quick sammich! I even got to snap a few shots of his rolling chassis, which is pretty slick by the way! Anyway, he seems like a descent fellow (dispite the MSU status) Don't shun him because of his trailer-puller...MSU corrupted him! From what I gathered, he has a late model power plant from a Tahoe, bolted to a 5-speed tranny. Posi rear with 4-wheel discs. Vette headers (coated) and drop spindles in front/drop coils in rear. Plus front & rear sway-bars. Pretty sweet! Bill or George, correct me if I get anything wrong.

Re: Lunch with ChevyBill (pics)
Thanks for the warm welcome to jackson Putter and GMan. I really enjoyed talking to fellow truck guys. Yes, I have the BIG ONE!
Of course I am referring to the 7.3 turbo diesel in the truck. Powered by International!!! In 2000, there was no real other choice that fit my needs. Dodge had no crew cab and Chevy only had the 6.5 or 6.6 diesel that had a TERRIBLE reeputation. This is my first ford, I was very reluctant to buy the truck, but she will run 95mph with 4 fat quarter horse mares (1200 lbs each) all day long and unloaded I have got up to 22 miles per gallon. My other money eating hobby. The headers are the 1st generation camaro shorties that many on the board have used on these trucks. Had I known Putter was so negative about Mississippi State University I would have brought him a cap or t shirt. lol You south MS members need to assist Putter with his construction project. He is house building, but building the shop or garage first. The only way to do it!!!!

Yeah Putter sorat has this thing with purple and gray, it is a wonder he has not snuck over and painted George's truck during the night Just got done talk to Gman69 and he was ranting on about your chassiss Bill. That thing looks sweet. Glad the drive shaft worked out for you too. Those are always nice things. Hopefully the deep southern Miss folks will get to meet up with you someday also.

Re: Lunch with ChevyBill (pics)
I am glad Gman69 liked the chassis. The positive comments are nice to hear about. There are no real "car and truck guys" really close by. It is a long process to bring it back to better than new. My wife is very supportive and has some technical knowledge, but it is nice to hear from guys that are in a similar boat from a trucking standpoint.
I could not believe that the stock driveshaft worked, the splines from the saginaw 3 speed are the same as a 2000 nv3500 5 speed. This is no doubt the best luck I have ever had on any type of automotive project. When the guys at Jackson Driveline saw my rolling chassis, they wire brushed the entire driveshaft and then painted it black, in addition to rebuilding the shaft. The shaft was VERY dirty before they started, it was a great day all the way around.

Re: Lunch with ChevyBill (pics)
special-K, if I had known you were hungry I certainly would have given you a ring had I had your number.
No, I would never haul my horses that fast, that is just something I always throwout about the powerstroke. One of my buddies has went throuogh 3 duramax trucks in the same 5 years I have had my truck. He keeps one under warranty, just his way of avoiding maintenance bills. His most recent truck was getting 6 miles per gallon when pulling, so it had to go see Dr. Chevrolet.

Nice chassis, maybe you can make it to the next Wingding and meet the normal Mississippians (you know the DAWG pound ). Bill (Palf70step) pleads innocence by being a Hardy High Golden Chicken grad.

Re: Lunch with ChevyBill (pics)
Krue, If I did not already have 2 maroon vehicles I would probabley paint this truck some shade of marooon. Through the good or bad, sportswise, I am a Mississippi State University supporter, mainly because it is the agriculture school and they manufacture their own wine, cheese and ice cream at MSU.
I hope to get to meet all the DAWGPOUND!! "Who let the dogs out?"

Re: Lunch with ChevyBill (pics)
chevybill,
I'm interested in the rear sway bar, or anti-roll bar whatever that is attached to the trailing arms. Is that a kit you can buy or a piece off another vehicle? thanks

Re: Lunch with ChevyBill (pics)
He advised GMan and I that this is a kit. Sold just for these truck...and if memory serves me correctly, it is from Early Classic (ECE).
Sorry for jumping in, but I asked the same question.

Re: Lunch with ChevyBill (pics)
I bought the front and rear sway from classic performance products in california. Some on the board have had trouble with them, however I have had good transactions with them. When I ordered the rear disc brake kit, they forgot the 6 stage 8 bolts for the brake brackets. Nothing on my truck has came from ECE mainly because of their prices. I have nothing against them.
Bill Athey is now selling front and rear disc kits and can probably get you the sway bars if you want to support a board vendor.

Re: Lunch with ChevyBill (pics)
You Mississippi boys make me miss home ! I lived in Oxford for 16 years.....yeah....I know. I REALLY am NOT an Ole' Miss fan....just liked it at the grove eatin' smoked critters and drinkin' cold beverages ! Most Engineers I hired in Mississippi were from State....we did alot of recruiting there also. GOOD school ! Asked one ole' boy what his goals in life were..answer: "Two or three hot lookin' babes and a couple hundred acres in the free and independent state of Calhoun County ". I think he's still working for my former employer !
My truck was an Ole' Miss maintenance truck for 31 years before I got it ! I don't hold it against it though....... Man if I was still there I'd love to join ya'll for lunch.... Now I'm stuck on the Border of South Texas. Nothing's rusted out here but its beat all to Heck ! ! Nice looking roller there ChevyBill ! |
