Gas Tank Help

i'am thinking of fabracating a fuel tank so i can mount in the rear of my pickup. We make tanks where i work for tractors so i know it would not be a problem. It would be a metal one not aluminum. My question is i do not know how i would mount the sending unit does any one know where i could buy a plate and sending unit that i can weld on the tank so a can bolt a sending unit to. If anyone has made there own tank any info would be helpful

THANKS
JOHNNY

Re: Gas Tank Help

It should be rather easy. The tank in my Studebaker is fabricated out of steel. The sending unit is mounted in a metal flange. It's the same aftermarket type you would get with any fuel cell. A hole was cut in the top of the tank and small holes were drilled and tapped (8-32's) to match the fuel sending screw pattern. Other than that you just need the gasket to place between the two. Once you get the sending unit, the diameter of the hole you'll need to "hole saw" will be obvious. If it were me, I'd drill the hole before I weld the tank together. I had alot of metal shavings plugging up my fuel filter the first few hundred miles.
