My dad and I stated tearing the 68 down for a restoration Tuesday evening. Here are some progress pics of what we got done Tuesday night. We took most of the interior out last night but didn't have the camera. i'll take more and repost them later.

Thanks boraxman, but if you take a good look at the first picture of the step board, you can see the edges getting some surface rust. We're trying to tackle these issues before they become a real problem. My dad is still having fits about how easy this will be. He says this truck is so simple compared to his 53 PU. The only real rust is in the cab corners and rockers. It's still got solid floors and cab mounts.

It looks good now, will look even better redone! I hope you don't run into any stuff that's "hiding" under the paint. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one! Any idea on final colors?

people would tell me i'm nuts for doing the same, but i totally understand where you're coming from doing the teardown. i've got a bad pass/side cab corner that might be eating into the cab support. on mine, i also see some rust bubbling up from spots on the doors and fenders and a hole in the core support under the battery (and in the inner fender). i need to do the same within a year or two after getting it running.

PPG Atlantic Blue off the 02-present Dodge trucks. We'll have a touch of extra pearl added like Stacey David did on copperhead to brighten it just a tad. I'm keeping the silver grill area. That is an awesome color! I understand the rust thing. I *could* have done a quickie paint job on mine and had it look OK, but I ended up replacing the fender/doors/tailgate.... BECAUSE the rust ALWAYS comes back, unless you cut it out or get rid of the piece that has it.

Matt , the tear down is coming nicely, i too understand your need to get rid of the rust before it becomes a problem. as nice as the truck looked before the tear down, i know it will be awesome when your finished. good luck and keep us posted . Mike

I would "NEVER" change the color! Black "IS" beautiful! ( IF I COULD ONLY GET MINE THAT NICE).I would lower both ends though.

I asked about "What color" because the truck obviously was not black originally. So it's either change the interior to match the outside or vice versa.

Actually, the truck was originally black with a white top and red interior. The dealership I bought it from had it painted solid black. The floors still have original paint. The rest of the interior has only been touched up. I'm painting it PPG Atlantic Blue off of the 02-present Dodge Rams.

The hood and fender lined up really well, but the hood had a bad spot in the bend of the pass. side where it rolls with the front of the fender. It looked like they got it in the press wrong. I met with Tim Christian last night to swap for a new hood. I'll let you know how it works.

JK, best of luck on the restore. I know what you mean about wanting to have it right. Be careful though, if you make it to nice, you won't want to drive it. That's what I loved about my 69 Burb:

I didn't worry about driving it that much since I knew I was going to redo it. I want to make it "nice" but I don't want to be nervous every time I go to drive it.

Tell your dad to save some time and just buy my 48!

My dad and I goofing off after taking the seat out and the doors off. We took the engine and tranny out Friday night, but I haven't had time to take pics yet. I'll try to get some this week.

Looks like you guys are moving along. I hate to disagree with your color choice, but I think the black exterior with red interior is hard to beat. But then again, I am rather biased to that combo...
