Frame #'s ?

I found some #'s on the frame today when I sandblasted and painted the frame.
They were both found on the frame rails out sides just behind the front cab mounts.
Right side:
3999918-731
3 - 22 - 18
Left side:
2443636 8 7 65 58
I believe the # on the right side is the part#, in the parts book I found 3999913 for the frame rail.
I don't know if the left side # is supposed to be a particial VIN.
I have heard those are mostly found on frame upper side and/or next to the motor mount but there are no #'s to find there on my frame.
The # does not correspond to the VIN on the VIN plate on the door post, but I think the frame or at least left side frame rail have been replaced at sometime.
Anyone knows what the numbers are?

Re: Frame #'s ?

Is this the '71 Cheyenne Super? Sounds kinda odd, but the 3999918-731 # sounds kind of like a gm part number.

Yes it is, but I have found out the truck is actually a 72 with a 71 VIN.

Re: Frame #'s ?

Re: Frame #'s ?

Are you sure there are no numbers on the top frame rail right next to the steering box? If there aren't then someone grinded 'em down, probably why it's a 71 with a 72 title.

Re: Frame #'s ?

The Frame# Should Also Be On The Top Of The Frame Rail On The Drivers Side Under The Where The Drivers Side Door Would Be.

Re: Frame #'s ?

I ain't trying to say it's stolen, I just don't know any other reason why anyone would want to remove the factory stamping. What they might have done was use a different frame for the cab with the original VIN plate. Just my .02.

Re: Frame #'s ?

If you do not see any marks where the frame numbers have been ground it might be a GM replacement frame. GM replacement frames would only have a part# on it. This would mean that at some time your truck might have been in an accident and the frame could not be fixed and had to be replaced.

Re: Frame #'s ?

The VIN on the VIN plate and the title are the same: CE241Z646752.
There are some 72 only things on it like mirror mount on the windshield, vented door post (were the VIN plate are) 72 only BB motor mounts, 72 doors.
PHP Code:
Are you sure there are no numbers on the top frame rail right next to the steering box
I am sure there are no numbers there and there’s no sign of any grinding.
There are obvious signs of an accident and the left frame rail are bolted to all the x-members, not riveted as the right side are.

Re: Frame #'s ?

Still curious to know what the # 2443636 8 7 65 58 are.
If the right side rail is a GM replacement it's maybe part #
If the rail came from another truck the maybe it is part of a VIN.
Anyone?
