Special Paint

How many have "Special Paint" from the factory on their trucks,or at least listed as an option?Let`s see the trucks, hear the stories(try to keep the BS to a minimum, please),and see what the code/colors are.

Re: Special Paint

I don`t blame yo 67 C30.GN4u2C planted that seed.(that common no count son of a Ford fanatic Dodge lovin' trouble maker)BTW,I saved that picture. Thanks!
Kel,I`d knew you`d find this. Was your truck a Stepside? What`s that side mounted wheel thing?
I just made a deal on a truck with special paint from with some jerk that thought he had something rare.He wanted an arm`n`a leg for this Fred & Barney powered p.o.s. with nothing but a 1/2 decent bed on it.Basically,I told him,"If I don`t buy this, the junkman gonna get it."
It`s a`69 that`s light grey and it`s still original paint.I`ll have to get the code.I told this guy,if he wanted to keep the paint,he could have it.Saves me from strippin`the crap off.

Re: Special Paint

The side mounted wheel was I think the spare tire mounted on the outside of the box behind the pass door. I never saw the mounting but there was a lot of surface rust on the paint when I has it repainted some 21 years ago. The body shop took the door panel off to match the color as close as possible. They did a great job in matching since the color does not appear in any book. The hood is slightly off because I didn't want to cut a hole in my original hood, its stored in my garage. I am 3rd owner and my uncle was second so the truck has been in the family for about 30 years. I am slowly accumulating parts so that when my kids are grown up I can finish what I started. I hope to get another 5-10 out of the paint

On another note I owned another truck the exact same color, but it was a I6 with a 4 speed. These were the ony 2 trucks that I have ever seen in this color.

Re: Special Paint

I have owned 3 special order lime green trucks, and have seen a few more not too far from my area. An old man years ago told me he remembered a whole line of "ugly green trucks like mine" at our dealership. All the ones I have seen have been 1971 models.

Re: Special Paint

Couple more...this truck has rust issues in the roof so resto has been put on hold for now until I decide if it is worth rebodying it. The pics don't show how bright this color actually is. When paint is fresh the color is VERY loud.

Re: Special Paint

I recall your`s,also. It seems Canadian trucks had these special paints more commonly.Where`s that guy with the "factory pink" truck? The one I just got is light grey. The wheels are painted red.Not many options on this`69 C/20 Stepside, yet the color.I`m thinking this was a company vehicle. In the southeast, based in Richmond,VA.,there`s an agricultural company called Southern States. These are their colors.I`d bet this could be one of their former trucks.Although, they use logos/lettering and this truck doesn`t appear to have had any.

Re: Special Paint

That lime green reminds me of sub lime on the Dodges, and I too noticed Canada has a think for the special paint and I have not seen a lot of them in the states, well none. I do not think a special paint code increases a value on a truck, a hemi Cuda, yeah maybe but not a truck! Good luck K, beat him up or drive off either way grey is well grey?!

That's funny about the old man. I was watching a special on Richard Petty at family gathering recently, and they were showed his famous "43" Plymouth Superbird. My granddad told me he remembered "a whole line of those ugly cars" at a dealership in Lagrange, GA. I told him if he had bought them all and put 'em up, he'd be a multi-millionaire now!:

BTW, that lime green is cool!

Re: Special Paint

Hello,

I have a '67 C20 that I am working on and would like to repaint it, but I can't find the paint code to know what to order. It's a "baby blue" with a white front grill. I've seen several other trucks with that color, so I know it can't be too special. The label in the glove box isn't much help...all it says is, "Special".

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: Special Paint

Is that original paint in the interior? If so,that may be the "special" part of your paint.Maybe your paint is a unique mix,but from the pictures it looks like the color that was offered that year. The interiors in`67 were either Fawn or that metalic grey.BTW,nice truck.

Re: Special Paint

I got the truck from my Dad who worked on fixing it up back in '95.
Here's some pics from 11 years ago when he first started.
It's time to re-do the paint, so that's why I'm researching this.
He didn't re-paint the interior (except for the doors), so you might be able to see a bit of the original interior color. I think they tried to get as close as they could to the original color. I like what they did and I'm going to try to keep with the same color scheme.

Thanks again. I'm really enjoying reading all different post on this forum. There's a lot of info out there.
