Powerglides

How many trucks with Powerglides have you seen,owned,or driven.It`s been rare for me.Ever seen a Powerglide with tilt column?Tilt started in`69 and I just got a`69 with a Powerglide.What was the last year for P/Gs?I kinda thought it was`68 until this truck.

Powerglides are a week tranny unless heavily modified. If done right, they make a great drag racing tranny for 'light' vehicles because they only shift once (2 speed). We used to call them "slip and slides". We sure went through alot of them in trucks when I was a kid. The advent of the Turbo hydramatics wich is a great tranny was a wonderful day. Is that one beind a 327? or is it in a GMC V-6?

I highly doubt the Powerglide was ever bolted to a GMC V-6, it would rip it up and spit it out. the only autoimatic I have ever heard of bolted to a v-6 was a TH400.

This was for 1960-1966 GMC trucks. There were a few powerglides behind the 305, but not many. I can recall one. There were a lot more in Chevys, usually behind the 283, which made a decent combination if you didn't abuse the vehicle. We had one in a 63 wagon behind a 300 hp 327. It withstood pulling a teardrop trailer across the desert, we even towed a 68 Polara at 80 mph with over 100,000 miles on it. But then I tried racing with it....

My ex father in law had a 69 with a 307 with a powerglide, seemed kinda odd. I didn't know they put the 307 in trucks. It barely had the power to pull the trucks weight, kinda sad. It also had tilt, I don't know if he added it or if it was original. It did have the powerglide shift indicator.

i had a 71 short wide with a glide it was a v-8 307 2bbl i also saw a 71 6cyl glide truck at super chevy last week pretty rare find

I've had 283's and 307's stock with a powerglide, and one behind a 1970 350LT1. It took a licking and kept on ticking. I loved the powerglide, and I loved that you could push start your vehicle if you had one. I did blow up a torque converter with that LT1.

I have a 230 inline 6 with a TH350 behind it. Is that a rare find? Maybe not at all? It was a 3 speed, I put in the TH350. Everything works fine, just had to find the right vaccuum connection.

I'm still trying to find a way to hook up a kick down cable, until then I have to go to 2 to get on the freeway

The only truck tilt i've ever found was in a 69 w/ the glide. It was the only thing he wouldnt sell. He said it was rare because of the 2 spd. I woulda changed the indicator in favor of a th 350 anyway. Just b.s. imo! lol

my dad had a 68 chevelle ss with a 402 and a stock powerglide.(dont know if it was stock to car but it wasnt built). he said it was a good tranny and would handle that big block that would obliterate the tires. (wasnt original motor tho) said it was wierd to oly have 2 gears tho.said you really kinda wound it out before you shifted and then the rpms dropped down a lot to 2nd gear

I have a glide in a 67 chevelle with a 350 and it has been very tuff .I love it and I have had it for over 20 years I had a th400 in 84 4x4k10 and it was junk , you cant give me one . I like the th350

My 67 project which has been set aside has a 283 with a glide. I havent seen any others around here.

Rare... well, hardly anyone ever installs 230's in these trucks, a step in the wrong direction. and a TH350 was never installed in a 67 truck either, so not rare... most trucks have been modified. Yours is just another modified rig.

I had a 68 c20 with the 292 / powerglide . Bought it for the county with 44k orig miles . Weird truck , sold it into Montana a couple of years ago .

I looked at a 72 1/2T this week with a 350 eng & PG...It was listed on the glovebox. Why????

I have a '69 3/4ton 2WD Burb. According to the glove box sticker, it had a PowerGlide. It has a 400 in it. Never looked that close at it to see what it originally came with from the factory...

They weren`t bad trannies,they just weren`t low-service as Turbo Hyromatics.They used bands,not discs for clutching and the bands required adjustment.Once out of adjustment,they`d start slipping until it was noticeable.By then,they were fryed.Routine adjustment prevented this.GM used them for decades in all their good ol' "well-built" cars.My`63 Riviera had one behind a 401 "Wildcat 455".The 455 was the amount of torque the motor made in a not so light car.I swapped-in a 455 dual quad GS motor.The Powerglide never complained.The gas pedal was like an "on" button,push it down and you were breakin` 100mph before you knew it.You found yourself thinking,"when did it shift?"
I`ll be using this trans in the pro-street`67 GMC I`m gathering stuff for.

oldschooloutlaw the turbo 400 is a great tranny. we currently have two of them and the only problem we have had is one time in the longhorn the little govenor that redirects the fluid to tell it to shift had the plastic gear round off. that cost about 2 dollars to fix and havnt had any other problems. strong transmissions too.

chevroletman 19712001 maybe it was the 38.5 ground hawgs or maybe me but it stayed in the trans shop as alot and they said that it was the most trouble from a 400 they had in 25 years heat was not a problem it had a ac condenser for a cooler . the 400 was out of 76 3/4 burb with a 205 n/p t case ( great t-case )
