Before anyone converts an A/C from R12 to R134a, you might want to read the following article at http://yarchive.net/ac/r134a_lethal.html

Re: R134a is LEATHAL!!!
Remember when our government sought GI's to witness atomic blasts to ascertain the effects of such an event? Care to guess how many of them have sustained some form of cancer or have already died as a result of their exposure?
Change subject: Any substance that replaces the oxygen in the air we breathe, will have a negative effect on our ability to continue life as we know it. When the oxygen content of the air we are breathing drops below 19.7 percent, we will be affected.

Carbon monoxide is lethal too!
I haven't seen too many air conditioning fatlities, so I will be brave and enjoy my air conditioning, lethal or not. Although it could be the new craze in suicides. |

Re: R134a is LEATHAL!!!
When has the Goverment "really" ever done anything that's "right" or "good" for us!! Yea my father was one of those GI's they did the testing on. Infact he saw the very frist blast at Trintry site at White Sands. There's way too much cover-up with testing of products period!!

Re: R134a is LEATHAL!!!
Why is it that whenever dupont's patent is about to run out, the old product is lethal, and every one must immediately convert to their new and environmentally sound refrigerant?

Re: R134a is LEATHAL!!!
FYI r134 only becomes lethal if
1) there is a leak 2) [and the real kicker] ABOVE 20,000 ft so if you find yourself cruseing at 30,000 ft, might just wanna roll the windows down...aircraft mechanics known about that a long time ago, thats why plane still use r12. |
