Re: Update of shortening my bed..

Lots of work done, but just got a new digital cam Sat. Anyway, this is how it sits now. Rear cab mount is not on yet. I had to get the cab off of my trailer to use it today. But I am happy with the outcome.

The bed came out really nice looking.
I think your rear seat needs a belt to be legal though

Re: Update of shortening my bed..

I KNEW when I saw that green chair back there somebody would say something....
Now, if I could just decide on how to lower the rear (leaf) without spending a fortune.

Re: Update of shortening my bed..

As it sits today. I take that back. I have since primed the pass side. It's just too f'in hot to do anything in the shop. The door faces West and the sun blazes in after 2:00.

All the body lines line up well and the bed uses the factory mounting locations on the frame. After the bed is heavily tacked, I will pull the front clip and doors and do my rockers before taking the cab off. Then the drivetrain comes out and the bed comes off so I can cut the frame down. New cam kit on the bench waiting to go in to current motor until I get the new motor and trans built. Already have my air, tilt and cruise cleaned up, painted and ready to install.
Wish me luck...
what did you use to cut it with, and did you cut the inner and outer panels at the same time.

Re: Update of shortening my bed..

You guys are doing some nice work, this has reminded me of a build in Hot Rod magazine back in the 70's. A guy took and cut a 67 down till the bed was only long enough for the inner fender wells. All he could haul was his ice chest, I think the name of the article was Stubby, maybe somebody has the old magazine !?!

Re: Update of shortening my bed..

Not since only 8 inches is coming out, they lined up perfectly. It all depends on where you make the cut. I bought a contour gauge and checked deferent spots to make sure they would line up with each other when welded.

Bought a house, moved and then got rear ended on my bike. Truck is basically sitting in the garage gathering dust until I can get well enough to start back in on it.

Re: Update of shortening my bed..

Still trying to recover enough to work on the truck. Spent the weekend getting the rest of my tools and work bench into the garage of the new house. Got a couple of lights up in the garage as well.
BUT, I took the cash from my bike being totaled and bought bunch of stuff for my truck. I have ready to go on: complete body mount kit, S-10 weather strip, rear roll pan, all the seals and channels for both windows, hidden antenea, sill plates and new trans cooler lines.

I hope to be working on it again by next weekend provided my body holds out after getting everything moved and arranged in the garage. I'll get pics soon as I can.
