Talking Finally!!!

This day gets better and better.

So I finally got to run my truck down the quarter tonight since installing the 700R4 and Vortec heads, and just today, new Yokohama Avid S/Ts all around...

First run: 17.084 @ 84.00. Already set a new MPH record, but the ET sucked. I tried launching it how I'd always launched it - ultraquick scratch, then just lay on it off the line. Let's just say I smoked 'em through first and when I found traction, I was bogged down in second. Couldn't do a thing about it, I haven't had a shot at messing with the shifter to let me get first. 60' time was a miserable 2.786.

Second run: 16.227 @ 84.71. Now we're talking. A new ET record as well, but not by much. I still had tractioon problems, though, and hadn't gotten the shift points quite right. 60' time was a much better 2.461.

Third run: 15.983 @ 85.31! YEAH! 9:25pm on October 11th, 2002, my truck FINALLY broke into the fifteens! Got a decent launch this time and a 2.339 60' time. Also, my only decent race of the night (everyone else I ran against was in the 14s or faster) and I beat him - a second-gen Eclipse that had me off the line, but I'd already passed him by the 60' mark and beat his 16.6 no problem.

Fourth run: 15.961 @ 84.97!! Faster!!!! Got a slightly better 60' time at 2.316, and that was most of the difference right there.

Fifth run: 16.118 @ 85.52!! Best MPH of the night! Got on it too hard off the line, ran a 2.477 60' time, but obviously got the shiftpoints a little better.

Now all that's left is to figure out which belt is squealing at 5000RPM and higher, and to get the shifter to go down to first gear. These times were all run with too much air pressure in the rears and with the 1-2 happening nearly 1000RPM too soon. I've also got to get used to the tranny a bit - my TH400 would shift the instant I moved the lever from L1 to L2 at WOT, whereas this one lets the RPMs climb another 200 or so before it shifts after going from L2 to L3.

Too bad the scales weren't open, so I have no idea what it weighs, really.

do u have a one wheel peel? thats one of the reasons that i didnt go to the track 2 weeks ago. the other was no radiator catch can.

what size tires/wheels?
whats all in your motor?

You mentioned that you can't get your truck to shift into first gear. Do you have a mega shifter? There is a lock out in the shifter itself that has to be removed if using on a 700R4. I don't have my instructions handy at the moment or I would explain better. Don't mean to sound bossy if you already knew this just wanting to help out a fellow truck nut! If you need the conversion info for the overdrive tranny with the megashifter PM me and I will dig up my instructions.

nate68 - yep, open rear end.

The wheels are 15" 6-lug rally's off of a late '80s Burb...tires are 245/60TR15 up front and 275/60TR15 on back, Yokohama Avid S/Ts.

The engine is a stock, original bottom end 350, with Vortec heads, a Comp Cams 260H, an Edelbrock Performer intake, a no-name aftermarket HEI, an Edelbrock Quadrajet, ghetto dual exhaust with stock manifolds, and a huge K&N filter. The tranny is a decently built 700R4, and the rear is a 3.73.

Stano - no, I don't have a Megashifter yet, which may be the problem. The thing is there, though, it seems to me that even the truck variant would be awfully low on a low-hump cab like mine.

you hafta cut the stop in the steering column like its under the hood, only like 1/8 of an inch. if you're staying with column shift i recommend lokar's shift linkage, it makes everything nice and smooth and nothing binds like the stock awful linkage.
