Unhappy my 87 truck w/350 smokes black

my 87 chevy truck w/350 engine throttle body fuel injection smokes black when i first start it up and as I really give it gas going down the high way. Im not sure if it has to do with the air pump because the knuckle head that owned the truck last unhooked the air pump thinking it would add more horse power which might be correct but also may screw with the smog pump etc.

also when i first start the truck, it seems like only either 5 of the 8 pistons are firing or that the timing is off for a short while until it gets warmed up. the guy had replaced the plugs before i bought it. not sure if it's the distributor or any combination of other systems.

any advice?
