71 LWB on a 96+ frame

I am seriously thinking of putting my 71 2x4 on a newer 4x4 frame. I want the reliability, and drivebility of a new truck but with the classic look. I know a new truck wheel base is about 4 inches longer than the 71. How practical would it be to make this swap work. I searched for previous posts but did not find anything suitable. So I spent the next 5 hours reveiwing all 96 pages in the 4x4 section. If anybody has any info or could steer me where I can get some it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jason

Jason if you search this forum a ways back there is a thread about this. If I remember correctly it got pretty heated with the pros and cons of doing the swap.

Mudder, Do you remember any details of the post. I had searched all 96 page manually and did not come across anything like this. Obviously, I missed something.

Thanks
Jason

BTW,not a bad idea.And,I`m a hard-core leaf sping/solid axle fan(Hotchkiss suspension).I,ve had a`92 K3500 since new.And,although I don`t expect a car-like ride from a 4wd like most these days,I must say,it sure doesn`t ride like the HD truck that it is.And,I`ve gotten 240,000 miles with only replacing the idler arm(3 times).It`s no biggy,$80@

Re: 71 LWB on a 96+ frame

I was going to do that on to a 91 4x4, but desided it would be easyer to 4 link and air bag the front and rear of the stock 4x4 72 we have. Here is the thread I'm doing it in.
