Re: No wide open throttle!!

first you need to verrify this to be true. The carb might be needing tuned, and just doesn't make the power that your last carb did.

Re: No wide open throttle!!

Engine OFF. Have someone in cab floor the pedal. Look down in front 2 barrels of carb and see if throttle blades are straight up and down. If not , adjust linkage . (what bracket did you use to mount cable?)

Probably so as the distance between the carb lever and cable bracket on each carb is differant.

Re: No wide open throttle!!

on mine i found out the cable from the pedal to the carb should have a stopper on it near the pedal, and my pedal wasn't pulling the cable far enough because of all the slack in the cable.

Re: No wide open throttle!!

Not sure how the edel carb is made but a quadrajet secondary will not open until the choke is open all the way. Also the secondary air valve of a quadrajet has an adjustable spring to speed up or slow down the opening rate of the air valve. Makes for a smooth transition from 2 brl to 4 brl. The edel may have some of the same adjustments.

Re: No wide open throttle!!

also, another piece of advice with Edelbrock stuff.... when I installed Edelbrock's Performer Intake Man. and Carb on my 350, I couldn't get my secondary butterflies to open very much at all... figured it out that the manifold didn't let the carb open WOT, had to buy a spacer for it, after which it did work. One more way Edelbrock can milk you for money.

Re: No wide open throttle!!

I just used the regular old Edelbrock Performer intake manifold (square bore I think) with their #1406 600cfm Electric-choke carburetor. When we tried to open her up, she would stop cause she was hitting the secondaries on the manifold's bore about 3/4 throttle or so. So I had to run to the parts store and buy a 25 dollar spacer, after which it worked. And don't forget to put gaskets in there, after she could run wide open, with a giant vacuum leak because somebody forgot the gasket between the spacer/carb it ran so wide just starting it that it floated the valves. I think I've got it down now, the beast is timed perfect, the carb is tuned perfect (thanks to a buddy and his college auto-techeducation and his timing light) and it's just too bad I've got to tear the motor apart to replace some bad rings on the passenger side.

Re: No wide open throttle!!

you should do that. if I'm not mistaken, I think the intake is a square bore, and the carb is meant for a spread bore(?) Either way, I bought an Edel intake and carb, and they didn't bolt right up to each other. What a deal there, huh?
