Re: Stepside For An 85 C-10

Many people in the business of repairing wooden boats use epoxy to seal the wood and then topcoat that with a quality varnish. In our testing, http://www.mar-k.com/wood_finish_testing_ii.html , we found marine varnish products failed after only a few months unless they are applied over a good seal coat of epoxy or similar product. Epoxy by itself is not resistant to the sun, but when coated with a UV absorbing varnish, is very durable. We also found Pine generally lasts longer than Oak.

Re: Stepside For An 85 C-10

Check with Bruce Horkey www.horkeyswoodand parts.com , they, along with Mar-K are one of the elite outlets of wood flooring in most parts. These two companies write the programs that others need to follow. The marine spar varnish is one of the longer lasting finishes on the market, but the addition of a seal coat, very well could be the best mix. I believe that Horkeys did a thing on "Trucks TV" with Stacey David, when he did the floor on the "Copperhead" truck. The whole trick is to NOT get into a hurry and work the wood over numerous times. The guys at Chevy Duty has one of their floors in the showtruck, at the store that had the wood stained almost black before sealing it and installing---it looks real good that way.

Re: Stepside For An 85 C-10

Wow..that's pretty cool. I like the almost black idea. that sounds cool cause the truck is going to stay black or it's going to be a blue color. But it's going to be a combination of black and blue. From the looks of it I may keep the fleetside bed because of the lack of cash for the stepside and if I do keep the fleet i'm going with wood so this all helps a lot. Right now it has a metal floor but i love the way wood with stainless strip work looks. So that looks like it's going to be it. Cause I looked at Chevy Duty for the bed stuff and it was 620 cheaper there than at LMC but it was still over 2 grand to get it the way i want it. just have to save money i suppose. Thanks guys
