AM telescoping mast antenna for FM reception?
The clearance into my garage is tight. I have to take my antenna off prior to driving my Blazer into the garage. I came across some repo am telescoping antenna masts for the 67-72 pickups. Started thinking this might be a good idea to replace my solid FM antenna mast for an AM as long as I can still get FM reception through it. Then I can raise it to the height of the windshield and not have to worry about installing and removing my existing antenna. I now have an FM radio in my Blazer. The list of options indicates the Blazer came with an AM radio.

Quick way to find out, reach up behind the radio and just hook her in
while it's laying there in front of you, if the connection on the back is the same I would say yes, however not sure so it may be trial & error

Re: AM telescoping mast antenna for FM reception?
I dont see any problem in doing it. My blazer came with an am radio, and now has an am/fm. I have the telescopic antenna that was used with the am radio, and it works just fine with fm.

I've got a 1 year old stereo hooked up to the antena wire and an extension. Reception is better than with the old AM/8 track

Awesome... I like the stock look. I just wanted to make sure I was not spending $50 on something that does not work. Thanks guys.

Re: AM telescoping mast antenna for FM reception?
As a broadcast engineer, I can assure you it will work. There is little difference in the frequency tuning of an AM to FM antenna. That is why there has only been one antenna on most stock vehicles for the last 60 years. Go for it!
