Sm465
Looking to upgrade/strengthen this tranny. How much should I pay? How much horsepower/torque should it handle? I am planning on going with a mildly built SB 400 with vortec heads, so 400 horse, 500 ft/lbs TQ. Can it handle it? What are your thoughts? I am an AOD guy looking to make this into a manual/Gear Vendors OD combo. Let me know, I value your opinion......

Re: Sm465
Depending on the year of the trans, there is an upgrade with the counter shaft to prevent the moving of a gear. The removal of a snap ring and the install of a sleeve

Re: Sm465
Do remove the snap rings and buy or have a machinist make a spacer for the front gear on the countershaft. Also there are certain synchros and clutch sleeves and shafts that are stronger for the hard gear jammers ( off road stuff) . do a google search and you will run across this stuff.

I have an NP435 that I'm trying to get rid of if you're interested. Just thought I'd give you another option.
