Shaving the firewall. What to do with all the stuff?

Yesterday i opened the hood to my truck. Trying to get a strategy first. Well i was over whelmed by all the wires running everywhere, a bunch of stuff running through the firewall. I could go on and on. What did you all do to hide the wires and re-route things through the firewall. I plan on adding a/c to the truck so is that going to be adding more stuff. Any comments would be appreciated. Pics would be better with an explanation. Sorry for the newbie questions but i thought i would ask the experts. Thanks Josh

This isn't a 67-72 truck but it may give you some ideas. This is what we did on my 77 Cheyenne to clean things up without shaving everything...

Know of a guy that actually mirrored the firewall of the driver's side to the passenger side to make it match. This of course with no brakes, etc. on it.

The A/C is simple - just do an under dash install.

Looks like in the last pic you boxed, for lack of a better word, the inner fenders.

Looks can be deceptive. We actually made filler panels to cover all the holes...

So how much stuff can you relocate to clean up the firewall. They all look great. Camaro thunder where are you going to put the brake booster and the heater box. I think that is what it is called. Depending on how "clean" you want the firewall... and how much trouble you want to go through... you can get an aftermarket A/C unit that mounts inside under the dash and uses a bulkhead to pass the lines through the firewall; and Kugel makes a power brake booster assembly that mounts under the dash inside the cab. You can relocate almost anything if you REALLY want to.

Well i would like to get as much stuff off the firewall as possible. Sorry for my ignorance but what is a "bulkhead". Also if i put the a/c behind the dash and also decided to put the brake booster how hard would it be to assembe everything. There is only so much room. I really like the idea of a really smooth firewall. How would you check the fluid for the booster? If i could i would like nothing to be on the firewall and i could do some kind of custom paint job. I don't know. It also depends on how much $ everything costs. Thanks Josh

A "bulkhead" is a piece (usually billet) that has male fitting on each side... the hoses from inside the cab connect to the one side, and the hoses in the engine compartment connect on the other. This allows for a "clean" transition for the hoses through the firewall.

As far as the brake MC/booster goes, take a look at some street rod projects, they usually mount the MC and booster on the frame roughly under the drivers seat. Relocating the brake MC is no small task, and there is certainly no cut-and-dried answer for your question. Sean Connery said it best in "The Untouchables"........ What are you willing to do?
