Late 80's steering wheel
I have the stock 1967 Chevy steering wheel and horn cap on my truck and was just thinking about changing it to a more "racey" one with better grip and slightly shorter diameter.
I have seen a lot of the 1988-up Chevy steering wheels on the 67-72 trucks. Is there a particular reason for using this type? Are they just more comfortable or what? Just curious mainly. The only reason I'm keeping the old steering wheel is the fact that it really completes the classic look of things with it's thin grip, classic "three arm" structure and original horn cap. The words CHEVROLET DIVISION still stick out real well. It's pretty cool. Does anyone else find the 67-68 steering wheels to be "cool looking"?

The late model ones can be had for almost nothing, that is why I think they are seen so often. I like the stock wheel, but it is easy to put back on at a later date if you decide to swap wheels. If you want a more original appearing wheel with a smaller diameter, try a corvette wheel like the one in the pic. They look good, and can had with a number of grip colors, as they were offered on a few different cars in the 70's. Perhaps board members can remember what models and years. This is what I will be using on my projects, as they are a little smaller than stock yet look "period" correct.

I'll be using a 74-79 style Camaro / Nova wheel on my hauler. The 80-81 Camaro wheel is very similar but uses a "rope" style grip texture. They look killer and they are smaller than the original wheels as well. I bought mine on ebay with a bow tie emblem for about 30.00 shipping and all. JMHO, Dean

Wow! I really like the Vette wheel. I saw those for sale new and the price nearly made me puke.
I suppose if I find a Chevy steering wheel that catches my eye at the junkyard, I'll take the time to see how much it is. There's also those classic looking ones with the three holes in each arm. I don't really know how else to describe them. You can get them at kragen's for 30-50 bucks. It's the same steering wheel used on Ron Howard's Oldsmobile in "American Graffiti", just in case you happen to see it on TV tonight or be a fifties freak like myself. There's always the chain steering wheel

I have a 68 and I like the original steering wheel more than the aftermarket ones. Don't get me wrong, I like the aftermarket 3-spoke woodgrain steering wheels but the original 67/68 wheels are my favorite.

the factory steering wheels were gigantic. i'm skinny and i would always hit my legs/knees on it.

Those wheels like in the pic were offered on many 70's GM cars like Skylarks, Rivieras, and others. With a little searching one should be able to find one.

I agree , check out 70's Buicks , alot had them , buy one with hub and horn pieces and you can buy a Chevelle / Vette center cap from the the repro guys , makes a nice wheel for cheap ( relatively ) . I switch back and forth between my stocker and my Vette wheel all the time , i really do like the original .

grant makes a wheel that looks very similar to the vette wheel that is much cheaper. i think it is for older camaro's. the wood on the wheel is not solid like on the vette. look for grant model 967, i think is the number.

This is important! Those big steering wheels are on for a reason. Most 67s didn't have power steering so if you go to a smaller wheel then you better have strong arms or plan on adding power steering. It's an easy mod and there are several threads on here on how to do it.

I like the 67 stockers too. They are big, but without p/s a smaller wheel would suck.
