axle ID help wanted

Sorry I've been gone, but I'm between jobs until Monday, and don't have access to a compter w/o going to the library...

I've recently picked up a set of K20 axles from a late 70's chevy. The rear is a 14-bolt with the removable pinion. The #'s on the axle are:

3877323

the "8" might not be an 8, "9" is my next guess.

Can anyone tell me what year and anything else?

Thanks!

Sounds to me like an eaton, a pict would be good. Removable pinion, from the front like a ford 9", if so then eaton, not a 14 bolt (14 bolt has a rear cover like most rear ends for access to the gears)

Removable pinion is a full floating 14 bolt. You are thinking about a drop out third member (Timken style axle). If the front is a Dana 44 and not a 10 bolt, it is '78 or older. If it is a 44, the easiest way to ID the axles is by the BOM number that is stamped on the tube of the front axle. The number is stamped on the tube facing forward just to the right of the pumpkin. It will take some scraping to see it if the axle is rusty. You are looking for a 6 digit number that starts with a 6.

I'm fairly certain the front is a D44. Looks just like the D44 I got in (6-lug), but I haven't scraped the numbers.
