Camo truck progress
I am trying to start a progress thread on my 72 short wheelbase step side. Let's see if I can get this to work. This is a picture of my cab.

Re: Camo truck progress
Sweet! If I had my druthers I would definately do up a lwb or a blazer WW2 style.
Is it just me that gets a chuckle out of the 4 fire extinguishers, a can of gasoline and a bucket of chlorine granules within 5 foot of each other...hehe.

Re: Camo truck progress
Bowtie, the chlorine and gas are the reason there's 4 fire extinguisher nearby. Good catch on seeing an oxidizer and a hydrocarbon stored next to each other. Yuo have to be a Firefighter, haz/mat guy or safety guy.
The both containers are empty and clean. |

Re: Camo truck progress
cstanley, When these truck were purchased by the gov. they were regular production models in od paint. The motor was the regular Chevy truck engine color. This truck was purchased gov. surplus back in 1979. It was originally a 2wd. I changed the body and bed over onto a 4x4 chassis in 1982.

I'm actually changing over to a 72 firewall that's why the old one was removed.

I was HOPING they were empty. Not a safety professional but I did spend a few years in the Army as an Apache mechanic. Keep us updated on the camo truck!

Re: Camo truck progress
Here's some pictires of the frame repairs. There were some cracks that need repaiting and the front right spring mount was held on with bolts. i replaced them with rivits. Sorry some of the rivit pictures are not too clear.

Re: Camo truck progress
Theres just something about a newly cleaned and painted/powdered frame that gives me a warm fuzzy. Kinda like getting a fresh start in life I suppose.

Re: Camo truck progress
Meathead, The 71-72 firewall has the throttle pedal that is mounted to the firewall in stead of the froor. The cab is actually a 68, the 72 firewall also has the different mounting holes for the e-brake.

Re: Camo truck progress
Bowtie, if a fresh painted/powercoated frame gives you a warm feeling wait till you see it with SS brake & fuel/vapor lines and up on wheels. Standby the pics are comming.

Re: Camo truck progress
Are you bending and flaring your own lines? If so where did you pick them up?
