72 Original wheel info needed

HI,
I'm new to the list and a new owner of a 72' Custom 10 Deluxe pickup.
My truck has a nice set of 73' and newer Rally wheels, which I notice is a popular change. But, I prefer the original wheels, whitewalls and hubcaps, a real "old man" look. I've got the right hubcaps and I'm looking for the correct - original style wheels.
Can anyone guide me as how to identify the actual correct wheels? I'm looking for pictures, dimensions, codes or anything to help me assure the wheels I find are correct for my truck. Unfortunately there are no junkyards in my area with these trucks, but they have racks of old wheels. I went to a junkyard they said "any 15" GM wheel will work", I'm not so sure. Any help or advise is appreciated.
Thank you, Libby

Welcome to the board.

Beautiful ride.

Where in New England?

I've got an extra set if your nearby.

Two styles out there, dog dish (my favorite) or full wheel covers.
Which do you have already?

Re: 72 Original wheel info needed

The correct wheels are 15" and didn`t change from`71(1st 5-lug) until`87 for trucks and even through `91 on 1/2t 2wd Suburbans. So,that much is true in what the junkman said.I assume you want it back to original.I love that look as well. But,you could just pop those covers on the rallayes for now.The full covers seemed to always come with whitewalls, though.I guess you`re going that route? You did say "old man look".Truthfully,I`m not sure of the width.I think it`s 6",but someone here will know for sure.It was the same throughout the years I mentioned.Same with offsets.

Re: 72 Original wheel info needed

my original 5 lug steel wheels on my 71 cheyenne have a small hole in between 2 of the lug holes. the only place i was able to find an exact spare rim with that hole was under another 71.
however other than that little hole (witch i have no idea why its there)
you wont be able to tell the differance
i guess it depends on how original you want it , im a little anal and had to have the right one.

on my 67 and 70 6 lugs the steel rims are 1/2 in wider on the gmc
(not that this helps you but its something i noticed this weekend)

Great looking truck! Those rallies look like 7 inchers, would probably look good with the full wheel covers on em. I would guess no one would ever notice the slightly wider wheel.

Re: 72 Original wheel info needed

Hello from RI,
Thank you for responding.
I attached a pic of the hubcaps, I hope they're the right ones for a 72' C-10 Deluxe. Where about's in VT are you?
Are your wheels actual 72' wheels?
Thank you again, Jeff tel 401-738-1151

Also a shot of my hubcaps, can anyone confirm if these are right for a 72' C-10 Deluxe?

Re: 72 Original wheel info needed

i must correct my self those hub caps wont fit the rallies, i thought you had the full wheelcovers

ive heard some people here say that the style you have there with a blue bowtie where also correct and yellow bowtie where for 73 and up however i my self am not 100 percent convinced of that

Welcome to the board! I really like the look of your truck with the ralleys (but I'm partial to them for some reason).

Re: 72 Original wheel info needed

If you want to be anal and can`t find`71 wheels with those little holes you can always drill them, too.
