Tubular Steps for '72 K-20? Anyone use them?
I was wondering if any of you guys bought a set from LMC(Or others) made for the '67-'72 K's........Heck, even if you adapted some to fit, could you post what they were off of?
I put my K-20 together to actually do a days work with it, and just moving it in and out doing body work prep, I am getting a bit upset of the increased cab height compared to my 4x2's.........Pulling wagons around the farm, or just running from farm to the field with tools, you get in and out alot, and if I am getting upset by it being 6' tall, I want some steps so if some of the shorter help has to drive it they aren't crawling up the rockers to get in. I know some of the mounts for these are weak, which is why I'd like to see what everyone is using..........I may be farther ahead buying chrome step bars for another make/model/year and building my own mounts to the frame.

I bought the steps from LMC and was disappointed with the mounts. they go to the bottom of the cab mount bolts and to the inner rocker, which I was not willing to drill holes into perfect rocker panels, so I built heavy brackets to mount to the cab mount brackets on the frame because the step ends were close enough to make work. The steps are about the same length as the outer rocker panel. If you make your ownbrackets for any steps just remember to leave room for cab movement and I spaced mine down some so I wouldn't kick the rocker too much.

Good call, it'd be tough to drill into perfect rockers.
The ones I removed mount directly to the frame. |

I built steps for a`95.Two plates against the frame for two grade 8 bolts.I made a frame from 1.25 square tube welded to those plates. On top,I welded diamond plate to the top. Then, hasd them powdercoated.I wanted them to catch the spray from the front tires. The only picture I have is a sorry site...

Oh man, don't want anything I have to mount to the cab...........I should just buy the least expensive set I can find in the style I want and then make it fit........I only want mine bolted the frame.

Here's a couple pics that show the mounting detail and size better.

The tubes slide over the frame mounts and can be adjusted to your desired in/out length.
