engine questions

I finally found out what type of engine i have in my truck its a 400 out of a 70-73 b&g body type. I have no idea what that means if anyone knows id appreciate the help. also i want to put headers on it and i dont know what type of port it is? If someone could help me with that i'd also appreciate that.I have had the truck 2 years and i finally found out what year it was so I'm learning now. Thanks in advance for any help you guys may have. Also the casting number on the back of the engine near the bellhousing is that supposed to be raised of stamped in? The one i located is raised and thats what helped me identify the year of the enigne.

Re: engine questions

The heads on a 400 SBC are the same as a 350 SBC, so any SBC Truck headers will work. The 400 is a pretty good engine. They do sometimes have issues with cooling and most of the heads that came on them were smoggers, but you can build them and get a ton of power. Nice find

Re: engine questions

You need headers for 73-87 pickups. There wasn't a D-port head from the factory. There were 400 SBC's installed in these trucks from the factory though. What is the casting number on the heads?

400 Heads are the same as 350, except they have steam holes in them where the 350's don't and use special gaskets.
