80 silverado
Just bought an 80 silverado fleetside to play with and hopefully soon restore, does anyone have any pictures of one in good stock condition for me to compare it to, also taking suggestions on whether to restore stock or customize. Any reply appreciated.
thx. |

Re: 80 silverado
Mysuggestion is to keep the factory chrome grille that came on the Silverado models. They are VERY clean. I lucked up and found one on Ebay to replace the grey plastic one. The 1980 grille is unique to that year, so it would be taking some of its character if you replaced it with billet.

Re: 80 silverado
Here is my 1980 GMC 3/4 ton, after 3.5 years, and just over $13 000 since starting on it... Outside doesn't look like much, but less mild bodywork, paint, and the interior, that truck is brand new through and through
Started off as a 2wd 3/4 ton pickup with a carbed 350 + TH400. It is now a 4x4 3/4 ton "HD" (3/4 ton front diff, but 1 ton springs all around) with an SM465 / NP205 combo. Oh, did I mention the tuned port injected 355? Also has the saddle tanks removed, and a suburban tank installed between the rear frame rails to replace them, and is fully wired / setup for towing. I'm hoping to get the bodywork done this winter, and will start collecting bits and peices to put an 81+ black Sierra Classic interior in The future may hold a 4 cylinder Cummins turbo diesel, and NV4500 / NP241 pass side drop engine / tranny combo, along with a D60 front diff. We'll see how gas prices go for now

Re: 80 silverado
nice trucks guys! Russ your truck has come a long way and i can't wait to see it in new paint. Also that cummings would be a sweet upgrade! But that would be kinda said to see all the work from the tune port go

Re: 80 silverado
No worries, I will be putting a lot of mileage on that TPI engine before it comes out It'll only be replaced with a Diesel if gas prices skyrocket again, to the point where running bio diesel would be cheaper to the degree that I'd be saving money even after spending the money to swap. Until then, the TPI stays put

Re: 80 silverado
now there is a truck!! Nice "big ten". As for the reasoning behind this thread i think his truck is customized enough that i would stick to that and do a nice restoration slight customization. But it is all up to him
