SPID reprint
Is there any guidelines to reprinting the SPID? How official is it?
I desire to redo my glovebox door when I repaint. I also wish to reprint my SPID...that way it is not all clunky looking. What plastic film is placed over it that would last 34 years? Thanks, Tim

Re: SPID reprint
The body shop guys just taped over mine when my truck was painted. I have never seen a reprinted glovebox sheet that looked like the original. You and I both know if you print a new one for that Super Cheyenne 4x4 everyone is going to accuse you of faking something on it. I think I would get another door to apply the fresh sheet to and save the original door as is.

Re: SPID reprint
Has anyone tried a type writer? That is what I thought they used originally, a computerised type printer. Or am I the only one that thinks that?

Re: SPID reprint
I definately think that the SPID labels were originally typed with typewriters, just need to find out what type/brand of machine it originally was

Re: SPID reprint
I looked for the font for a long time myself, and gave up, its not a font. These were printed with high speed band printers or line matrix type printers. I have spent a lot of time myself collecting original labels and have scanned all of the charactors from carefuly removed labels. I have cleaned all of the charactors up a pixel at a time and can now make a perfect copy printed on on a color laser. I think they are very hard to tell if they are original or not and that was important to me when I did mine. Here is a pic of one I did recently. PM me for more details.

Re: SPID reprint
Chipflyer - that does look good, I was going a repro sticker but had no idea how I could ever run it through a printer or typewriter and get everthing lined up, let alone get the right font, might have to wait till next summer but I would be interested in having you print one for me, but if you do want to sell these on here please help support the board.

Re: SPID reprint
That looks great. I can see you spent a ton of time in some program making them. I was thinking about cranking up Corel Draw and a program called Font Creator.
It could be done...but real difficult and time consuming.

Re: SPID reprint
Thanks guys, I think I have duplicated them pretty well and it looks better than what the pics show. It has taken huge amount of time over the last year or so (wife thinks I am nuts) and I have pretty much gone bug eye staring at the labels. If someone needs one I could make one now that winter is coming and I will have more time to sit in front of the PC. Not going to quit my day job but If you are interested send me a PM I will let you have more details.
Jeff

Re: SPID reprint
That looks very nice! Seems like this would be a nice little side business if you could generate the business between this site, other sites and Hemmings.

Re: SPID reprint
If you didn't notice, you put "gear" instead of "rear" on the axle ratio. Very nice looking. I need to get one made for my 2wd Blazer.

Re: SPID reprint
Wow that looks really good. I am going to steal a thread. Does anybody know how you could find out what exactlly was on your truck. See I have a 50th. but the glove box sticker is gone. If I had the correct docs. I would restore it back to original. I had thought about writing GM to see what I could find out.

Re: SPID reprint
As far as I know, the sticker and the build sheet in the seat springs are the only printed records. GM has no archive for our trucks.

Re: SPID reprint
Man that sucks, Cause it really wouldn't be worth restoring it back original then. The original seat is gone from mine. So I guess I am out of luck on that one.
I guess I will just bag it and make a nice street truck out of it. Last edited by BarryB; 10-21-2006 at 07:26 PM. |

Re: SPID reprint
If truck was sold in Canada you can track for about a $50 fee every option it was ordered to your specific truck with via GM vintage service.
