Depends. True, boring .060 just to go .060 doesn't make much sense, but if the block had already been bored .030 at some point before, and can be cleaned up by going another .030, there should be no problem, and it would just further extend the life of the block.

Re: 0.060 Over

If your Machine Shop has already bored the block to the .060 over pistons, you may not be able to change pistons now, they bore/finish hone the cylinder to the pistons, if your concerned with cash... just stay on the path your on... the cam, heads, & rear gears are what (in my opinion) really make up how good a truck runs... I've had stock component 327's with decent cam (pretty much the largest cam I could run with stock valve springs) and 3.73 gears with stock 041x heads (I can elaborate on that if you need me to) then use a 2000 stall convertor (600-800 over stock stall, some advertise differently). If your replacing a worn out stock motor, you'll be pleased with the performance and the price tag. And you won't have to change horses mid-stream...
PM me if you have questions...

Re: 0.060 Over

Use an after market crank and some decent 6.0" rods and some nice hypereutectic pistons and youi will be set...

I don't know that I have ever seen pistons with a compression height to work with 3.75" stoke and 5.7" rods...

Re: 0.060 Over

I have a set of pistons that you are talking about. The wrist pin hole is moved to compensate for the difference. They are Keith Blacks .

Right, I was talking about if you had a choice between .030 and .060, you'd want to go .030.

Re: 0.060 Over

one thing mentioned up there isn't acurate... a 400 with a 350 crank isn't a 383, that would be a 377, high RPM motor.

scoggin dickey sells a very very inexpensive kit for you. always keep the phase " there is no replacement for displacement!" stroke on!

Re: 0.060 Over

One more thing to the mix. If you use aftermarket rods get capscrew style rods instead of regular bolt type. There won't nearly be as much block clearancing required if any, and you can run a normal cam instead of a small base circle.
