Back up light help needed
I have all lights on my truck working now except the back up lights. I have replaced the bulbs and the fuse is good. I checked the back up switch and found that the p.o. had disconnected the wires and had removed the connectors from the wires. I replaced the connectors and hooked the wires back to the switch. I still don't have back up lights.
Any suggestions on what I need to check next? Could the switch be bad and how do I check it to find out? |

Stick or automatic? If automatic maybe the N/S-Reverse switch is out of adjustment. Don't know about sticks but could also be out of adjustment. Have you connected the wires bypassing the switch? If you have bypassed and still have no lights either a bad ground or a break in the wire.

Re: Back up light help needed
This isn't exactly an answer but it's an old thread that may help. I used a toggle mounted on my shifter like Matthufham did. The point of this is if you have a cheap ($2) toggle switch you can run 2 wires off it to your backup switch and test it at least. Here's the thread:http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=backup+lights

Re: Back up light help needed
Bob, I haven't tried bypassing the switch. I will give that a try and see what happens.
Jim, the toggle could be a problem for me. There is no way I will remember to turn it off and the cops around here would just love that. |

Re: Back up light help needed
Not trying to hijack this but lets say your truck was a manual and you converted to auto. How do you get the reverse lights to work? Will I need a new wiring harness?

Re: Back up light help needed
My toggle lights up when on so it's easy to remember to turn it off. The other cool thing about having that light back there is if you need to hook up a trailer or need some light behind the truck to do something.

Re: Back up light help needed
Skokie, I found a harness from an automatic and changed out the plug. Matching the wires to the terminals by their colors. Works great for me. As for adjusting the switch. I put the shifter in reverse, loosen the screws on the switch and move it slowly one way or the other until the lights come on in the back. Lots of luck.
