Brake Booster Question....
.....I have checked the booster on my 71 by pushing the pedal down then starting the engine and the pedal goes down a bit farther. If I understand right then that means the booster is good right? My question is could it still be bad? Everything else in the brake system is new and although it stops ok the pedal is still hard. Not quite as bad as when the vacuum line is disconnected but close. Would a new booster make the pedal feel better? Looking for opinions. TIA

Re: Brake Booster Question....
Basically all a booster is. Is a big diaphragm. You can rebuild this things with only a little trouble. They are sealed by a grease ring basically and when the grease gets dry it cracks, and you lose vacuum. I have taken them apart and replaced the grease ring with new grease and it worked fine. So to answer the question you asked, you need to do a vacuum test and see if it HOLDS vacuum.

Re: Brake Booster Question....
something else?? Are you running any type of cam??? A bigger cam takes the vacuum away. You might need to put a vacuum canister in line. Just a thought.

Re: Brake Booster Question....
naw right now it's just the stock 350 with 104K on it. Thanks for the replies. I'll look into getting a vacuum tester.
