Removing window crank & inner door handle

Do I need a special tool to remove the window crank on a 1968 c10? What about the door handle. If so where can buy one, or if someone knows a clean easy way to take the off I'm all ears!

Re: Removing window crank & inner door handle

Go to any parts store, autozone, oreilly, checker whatever your preference is and ask for a door handle clip remover. It looks like a 6" x 2" piece of metal with a u shaped cut in one end. Just take this tool and slide under the handle to release the clips. You can look at a window handle and door handle at those parts stores. They sell them new in there help section. Go grab one and you will see how the clip is situated on yours.

Re: Removing window crank & inner door handle

theres another trick too.
get the side of a towel between the crank and the doorpannel and pull it back and forth , the idea is to catch the clip intoo the fabric and pull it off its worth a try since it doesnt damage a lot .
there is a chance the clip will fly off and you cant find it back though

Yep when you lose those little suckers you never find them and you can about buy a handle and a clip for what a parts store wants for the clip.

Re: Removing window crank & inner door handle

I built a clip puller.I used a welding rod and flattened one end, then bent the end about an 1/8th of an inch.Works pretty good for a quickie.Actually went to the parts store to get a tool and they were out.I still want to get the tool since it works well on the door panels in rides with the plastic retainer cllips.

Re: Removing window crank & inner door handle

Do the handles have to be aligned a special way or do I just slide it right under the bottom?

Re: Removing window crank & inner door handle

The tool must be slid under the handle only one way. Hopefully someone will post a pick of both the tool and a handle to try to explain it more clearly. I know the first time I took one off it was a pain but it does help if you have the tool and an extra handle. You will then see how it works. I am pretty sure you slid the tool paralle to the handle to undo the clip.

Re: Removing window crank & inner door handle

And if that doesn't work, flip the tool around 180 degrees if the clip was put on the other way.

Re: Removing window crank & inner door handle

I use the tool for opening paint can lids, has the perfect little hook on the end.
