Hey Rokcrln- I have a couple of questions if you've got the time.

1) To mount the bed, will you just be using a very long carriage bolt through the tubular mounts?

2)To correct the front sheetmetal height for the cab drop, did you simply have to Z the front of the frame for the radiator support mounts?

3) What do you plan to do about the steering column to correct for the body drop? Any other snags on the cab drop? How was this accomplished- did you raise the entire floor?

4) Got any old pics of the inside of the bed assembled? I was wondering about how the floor attaches to the side panel at the 45* slope. Also- will you be using widened stock tubs? If so, how will they attach to the bed sides? Where did you make the cut for the body drop on the bed inside panels?

5) With the frame Z and the notch out back, how close does this get you to 'laying frame'?

Looks awesome btw, very inspiring.

1) No the tubes are just for mock up and then I will make new mounts simular to the stock ones just taller. Doing longer carage bolts would work fine and be alot easier but I am just anal!

2) Yes. This adausted the radiator mounting point, made the sheet metal line back up as well as locate the bumper back were it should be.

3) Steering column is fine like it is? I did not raise the flor I wnet the other rout and lowered the entire cab leaving the floor were it was

Only snag is if you are 6-0" you will need to lower your seats so you can fit the truck.

4) No other pics that I can fine on disk. I sectioned 6" out of the center of all the bed panels right thru the middle of the body line that is on the inner bed panels. This gives a stock look, the bed floor all bolts back in hte stock location just higher. I have not finished the 45* slope on the bed panels yet as it will take a bead roller to get the look I want. My tube are 7" wider than stock and I just took 2 tubs and made one wider one and they bolt bacl in the stock location (with some tweaking) but 6" higher witch is about 1" below the bed rails.

5) The front X member is sub concrete and the rear license plate is my kick stand! I will be doing a X member section for an extra 1.5" now that I have found the right hood hinges (thanks XXL) to use. Once the fenders are trimmed for the front tire's and maybe the cab floor it puts my rockers about 1/4" off the ground.

6) No progress on my toys but alot on other peoples

7) Would I do this again? Not for only 2". But since I did a 2" body drop, 2" Z frame, and an extra 2" for exhaust over the rear axel between the bed then yes I would but it is a stupid amount of work. I addad it up once and it was somewere about 70' of body cutting and 35' of body welding!

Rock, put the track back together and just drive it until you get everything elsed finished, painted or not. Just go with it and drive it over the summer and have some fun for once.

It is too far from the road and when it is running it will be done not just slapped together. As far as summer fun here is a teaser shot! These are the other toys I build from scratch!

I thought since the steering column is now mounted 2" lower, you would run into problems with the angle at the steering box?

Where did you find the Rally wheels are they 17X10 in the rear and 17X8 in the front? What size tires are you runnung in the front? Thoes wheels look really good. That is going to be one kick a$$ truck!!!!

I had them custom made by a company that is no longer in buisness. Rear ar 17x11 with 335/35/17's and the fronts are 17x9 with 265/40/17 I think and I do not know the back spacing on them. These were built just for mock up for the final rims.

Steering column~ If you leave the bottom in the stock place then yes, I think I just moved the hole up a bit but I anm not sure it has been about 7yrs since I really worked on it. It will be back under the knife soon but first I need to get the Crew cab wrapped up (leaves this weekend) then I need to kget started on project Lemon Drop for a customer, then finish my tube chassie buggy by Aug. and then drag the 71 SWB out for completion. One thing I am looking forward to is Painless, MSD and Comp cams got together and made a kit (Hot cam, dyno'd program and computer and a new harness) for my 93 vett LT1. It should be a good start for a bit of extra power plus I have a problem with my computer or harness that is keeping it from firing up. So after buying the harness and getting the comp re-worked I was disapointed and went on to other projects

I have had a few guys ask about how I did the inner bed sides so here are a few not real good pics. I sectioned 6" out of the middle of the body lines. Notice how short the head boars is

Also here are a few pics of the current state of the truck. Stored in the attic!

Yeh it has been a fun ground up build! The tube chassies are more along the line of my auto back ground but I am trying to fool people with my truck skills as well

The 71 is getting closer to being back in the stable. Right now I am waiting for Painless to finish up their Hi RPM kit for the LT1's. It comes with a Hi energy roller cam, dyno burned computer and harness all that should drop amlost an extra 100hp to my motor. So once that is out I can finish up the chassie and start body mods. I think my next toy this week will be an English wheel for the shop. I want to get more proficent at metal work and play a bit more. How is your vett set up comming along? Have you checked out the Painless cam ,computer set up for those LS1's? It is a real sweet set up.

It's coming along. I just posted an update. I think I might rival you for the slow build title

An eglish wheel is in my future... For now I just find peices that are the shape I want and cut, bend, hammer, and weld

The Painless set-up w/ PCM and cam for the LS1 is nice. I'm gonna focus on getting it on the street first though

I do have a performance re-flash that's supposed to be good for 18 ponies, so I should be starting off around 363, not considering the gains I will get from the exhaust system. So 370+??? We'll see

Before I can get on this one I need to get the Tip & Flip dolly done for the 69-72 Blazers (so I need to pull my 70 2wd apart for testing). I have a few new projects comming up for some other members in the next few week's so keep an eye out for some of them.

Rock, at least you have a toy. I just sold my 2000 convertible vette so no more toys so I convinced my girlfriend to let me buy a 72 cheyenne short wide as a weekend driver until I finish the Blazer. I am going to use a lot of the parts I had new for the Blazer to get the truck going quickly to play around with on the weekend to destress. Should get me motivated to finish the Blazer too. Gave away my very good condition single wall top yesterday so the roadster project is on. Cut down the doors and chop the w/shield two inches and put her back together. I will keep you guys updated as soon as I start back up with the projects. Projects looking good Rock. Keep the pics coming.

It is finally rolling out of storage (again) to get finished up in between customer work. Tonight I spent about an hour removing old metal and bondo! Then coated everything with Rust Doctor and will start fitting on new rockers and corners in the next few days when I have some spare time.
Atleast it was not as bad as most trucks that I have been doing rust repair on

And it goes without saying but you have to love the cab dollys for doing this work
