next we sit the intake into place and installed the bolts as mentioned
i also installed my new ARP fuel pump rod and fuel pump...
using the fancy S.S. bolts

also installed my high dollar alum water pump...O YEA

NEXT WE PLAY ...with the NOS q-jet carb i bought at a swap meet for 40.00
i am going to convert from a hot air tube choke to a electric choke kit from edelbrock...no more devorced choke set-up

thanks buddy...that carb is brand new old stock i bought at a swap meet for 40.00

well to night i started by filling the engine with oil 10W40 so i can prime the engine on the engine stand..filled thru the dizzy hole on the intake manifold.

i just got my new sbc balancer installation tool..i will install the balancer and use that tool to turn the engine over to adjust my roller rockers...

next we use my home made engine primer tool made from a old points dizzy
now i made some cardboard rail's as you will see...they worked a little, oil still went all over...i must have spent 1 hour priming and rotating the engine to get each rocker to have oil to them...filling each push rod with oil is a big help...before adjusting the rockers

well adjusting the rockers is very easy....
i used my chilton manual to find out which valve's to adjust with each rotation of the crank...the balancer install tool is excellent for turning the engine over to do this....adjust each poly lock untill zero lash and then 1 complete turn and tighten each poly lock Allen set screw...

ENGINE ON TOP DEAD CENTER BOTH VALVES CLOSED ON #1 CYL
ADJUST INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE LISTED IN BOOK..
ROTATE THE CRANK ONE REVOLUTION TO #6 FIRING ORDER
ADJUST INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVES LISTED IN BOOK..
THERE DONE...

BY THE WAY THE RED OIL.. is break in lube i poured on each rocker for extra protection...i will prime the engine one more time in the truck before starting up for break in...
the best way to understand valve adjustment is to read the book..unless you do this very often..it will be hard to remember which valve to adjust when..

OK BOYS AND GIRLS
things have been going slow because i've been sandblasting brackerts and pulleys ,,, then painting and watching paint dry...
installed the power steering pump and brackets, bottom crank pulley.
bolted the headers inplace...getting ready to install the HEI DIZZY...
but before i do that need the headers in place so i can install the plug wires onto the looms
this is what i will be doing this afternoon...mean while here's a few pictures

HEI ISTALLATION.....
first i got the engine on TDC #1 (FIRING ORDER 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2)

YOU CAN PUT YOUR FINGER ON TOP OF THE # 1 SPARK PLUG HOLE AND TURN THE ENGINE OVER TILL YOU FEEL PRESSURE COMING OUT OF THE PLUG HOLE
( #1 CYL =first cyl in front of engine on drivers side..
timing mark on balancer aligned with 0 on timing tab.

both intake and exhaust valves are closed on #1 cyl = TDC #1

NOW... if you are converting from points to HEI..
now is the time to remove..
dizzy hold down tab,
old coil & bracket,
all spark plug wires,
all old spark plugs,
the old points dizzy,

now with that all removed were ready to install our new HEI dizzy..
the new dizzy should just drop right in.. you want the rotor pointing in the direction of #1 cyl it won't be perfect but very close..
note i marked #1 on my dizzy cap so you could see it..

if you have problems getting it to drop all the way in...don't panic this is normal...if you are using a MSD dizzy it's even harder to get it to drop all the way in because the bottom oil pump rod driver is not tappered like a GM dizzy

now we can run our new HEI WIRES
r45ts plugs gapped at .45
new coil 12 volt power wire ran from keyed power sorce..the old resistor wire WILL NOT WORK,
i am using accel 8.8 wires...
with the plugs installed i routed the new wires...

HOOK UP YOUR NEW 12 VOLT POWER SOURCE TO THE MARKED 12 VOLT TERMINAL ON THE CAP
START ENGINE,, TIME WITH A TIMING LIGHT TO SPEC'S
NOW BURN RUBBER

great guy's thanks...tommarrow night i am going to jump on all the little pluming items for the carb, water neck, oil pressure line fitting,fuel line,
power booster fitting, and will show how i ran my vacuum lines, for this electric choke conversion carb. temp sending unit. carb return spring hold down.. AFTER THAT...it's time to put the engine in thr truck...i will show the process of that...then the start up video...open headers..

OK...comcerning the dizzy. Is it pointing toward cylinder 1 (looks like it) or is it pointing straight forward?
