Re: 1969-70 Short Stepper Check it out

Not sure why the picts are so small, I may have to reload them when I get home. BTW the paint (It isn't primer grey even though it looks it) is the original paint and color!! Guess why/how!! More to come with the SPID and it will all become clearer (even more so with bigger picts!!)

Here are the bigger ones, sorry about the mini picts, not sure what that was about!!

You need a grill? I have an extra one in a lot better shape than that one. Congrats on the find. I am restoring a 69 short step.

Re: 1969-70 Short Stepper Check it out

I still don't know what GSA stands for though

Government blah blah?

Is the green or the blue the original interior color?

Re: 1969-70 Short Stepper Check it out

General Services Administration (GSA is a gov't supply agency, vehicles, etc), kinda funny I work for and have bought a couple of these (the cop-spec Tahoe, an 9C1 Caprice and a 69 or 70 Chvy truck!) Baby blue, special paint code, never seen one this color. I do not know if I'll leave baby blue or not, kinda too soft and fuzzy for me!!

Here are some picts of the SPID, check out the options considering there is not any power anything, the list is long!!

Thumbs up Re: 1969-70 Short Stepper Check it out

I'm having a flashback to when I bought my truck... from Phoenix, AZ, built in St. Louis. Don't know much about the history of it though. Glove box spec sheet was painted over too, so I don't know the original color.

Is the paint faded, or is that primer on the outside? (edit: oops, I see the info about the color now.) And, what's SPID?

That small tag below the C/10 side badge looks familiar too...

Going by the SPID sticker it's a 69 half ton step built in Fremont...

Thanks Longhorn :P I guess the pics were loaded of the SPID after I posted (I hope) Maybe if I scrape some paint off mine, I could read some of my options.

Re: 1969-70 Short Stepper Check it out

very carefully, i'd say fingernail polish, but the spin is very fragile. Mine is in OK shape and is readable, but barely. I posted the picts of the SPID after you asked (you're not loosing it!) I didn't have any picts cause the wife took them and sent them to me, but couldn't open the glovebox!! I would bet yours is equipted very near like mine cause GSA buys several hundred at a time and they tended to be identical in equipment, much like when PDs buy crown Vics, the order up 25-30 cop specs cars and they are all alike. I wish my dash wasn't hacked up and still had the radio delete!

Re: 1969-70 Short Stepper Check it out

I hear ya about the radio delete. Mine, somebody deleted the radio that'd been installed but had hacked the dash and cut 4 speaker holes to previously install it. Too bad they didn't replace the 2 broken coil springs (opposite corners) or some kind of maintainence with their money - I had to do it along with the impending sheet metal work.

Glad I saw this thread about GSA's, it might be what mine was? I try to follow up with any info if I can read anything off my SPID.

Re: 1969-70 Short Stepper Check it out

The baby blue is a special paint code, maybe a GSA only thing? I have had several L6/4-speed trucks and they were all 4.11 posi, so I like that more than anything else. If I do not keep this one, I'll definately be liberating the rear!! The 6.0/4l80e will rip it up with the 4.11 and go great with the OD. Let me know what you find out, they may be twins!!

Re: 1969-70 Short Stepper Check it out

Made some progress on baby blue, new fuel after draining that rancid smelling old stuff, rebuilding the 2 barrel, and changed the oil and differential fluid, BTW the 4.11 seemed to have withstood the many years and is still there!! I have a few more picts soon.
