Audio system

Ok so i'm planning my audio system, I really dont want to re-invent the wheel so does anyone have a list of the best system config for our trucks and the layout. 1K is all i'm interested in spending, so make it easy for me and give me the breakdown and where it all should be located. I'm keeping my JVC control because i like how the green lights go with my green dash and truck...

Right now my speakers are in my doors and i dont like it there so i'm moving to kick panels, where is a good place for the other two speakers other than overhead?

Is there a thread somewhere that address this in completion?

TIA\
ted

Re: Audio system

Once I relocate the tank, I will do most everything in the back. I don't want to cut my doors, so that is out.

I am doing a 6.5"/3.5"/1" setup in the kick panels, then I will mount a 6.5" 2 way up high in the back. I still haven't settled on amps yet, but I am 90% sure I will run 2 10" Kicker L7 square subs.

I went with a 7" motorized touch screen DVD setup in the dash in hopes that if my interior every gets solid I will add a Mac Mini for full mobile access (blue tooth, wifi, navigation, etc).

Without the cost of the Mini, my setup is right about $800 for all including the wires and whatnots. I haven't even started yet because I want to do a Camaro alternator (90+ amp) and dual batteries along with a bunch of rist repair in the floor. It's all in boxes awaiting the wet season to end.

Re: Audio system

OK i like what youre saying, it sounds right. I might stop short of the dvd deal but i like the rest. Do you have a drawing or any pics or would you start a build thread once you get going? For some reason, my brain starts to fade when it comes to audio wiring, in my home as well. I dont know why this is but it is. So any help here would be much appreciated because although harder to do it myself i think i want to atleast try, i can always hand the mess over to someplace if i get fed up.

what brands do you like in speakers and sub, amp...

Re: Audio system

There are a lot of great brands out there. Just about anything sold at a retail store will serve the purpose.

I have expensive tastes on a ghetto budget. For range speakers, I have a fondness for Infinity/Polk Audio/MB Quart. I have used all 3 with good results and they won't kill your pocket with the lower end lines. I have some Infinity Reference series for part of this build. I have also been looking at Nakamichi for my smaller ones.

As for Amps, that is wide open. If you have an OK head unit and quality speakers, then clean power is easy. In my Toyota I ran Planet Audio tube amps (looked great and incredible power) but they don't make them. In my CRX I ran MTX, cheap $/watt and good looking with soild sound.

For my truck, I'm looking at old style Clif Designs, Nakamichi, MA Audio and a few others. Here is a picture of a molded rear like I will be doing. The suade looks cool, but mine will be basic carpet or vinyl. I am running 2 amps and will have a raised bow tie or something cool. Who knows, I have about 6 months more of rain before I start.

Wires are easy. Good ground, power on one side, audio on the other. Keep them seperate and you won't get noise. Red is hot, black is ground, the rest is labeled

<edit> I get a lot of crap off ebay or from friends who work at shops. I'm not a fan of paying retail when possible and last years model is still new. Technology doesn't change THAT much.
