Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67
Uh-oh! An update!
It's been a blast drivin the old beast, but there's still a lot of little things to clean up. I got the reverse lights mounted. They still need to be wired, but at least it "looks" like they are there

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67
I also FINALLY got the fuel tank properly vented. I was going to run the vent line to under the hood, but that kinda scared me with a hot engine, so I decided that I would run it up the stake pocket in the bed. I used a motorcycle vent that JohnFabris suggested I use. It's supposed to only suck in and not let anything out, but I didn't trust that, so I mounted it in the stake pocket so it would be higher than the fuel level in the tank and possibly in the filler neck and added about 6" (just to be safe.) It's shaped like a hat so water should never get in the tank. I still need to add a bunch of hose clamps and a better hold down for the line, but at least I can put more than 1/4 tank of gas in the truck now.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67
You can't really see it, but it's inside the stake pocket and here's the routing under the bed... I still have to clean up my wiring mess It works well, I drove about 20 miles on the interstate and it never missed a beat from not enough fuel.

Great work with everything.
Your 2 hour drive is a lot better than my 5 hour drive I have to do to work on mine. I live in Athens, GA and have to drive to South Alabama while I'm working on the motor (bored 396 to 402) and transmission (rebuilt TH400). Should have it driveable in the next few weekends so I can get it home and start my body work. I noticed you girlfriend/wife (can't remember which and thread is too long to look it up) is a grad student at UGA. Mine (wife) is as well and I'm also counting on her PhD. to bring in some money for my toys. We can always wish, right? Keep up the good work, and I hope to have a similar thread in the near future. |

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-C...79182228QQrdZ1 The centers are plastic and the rings aren't of great quality. They are good for a DD, but not a show truck. Although you could buy the rims and add "the good" rings and center caps. Wheel vintique also sells the corvette style rallys with 6 lug. High quality stuff (so I've been told) but also has a high price tag. I don't see why they would be different, the only thing different between a 5 and 6 lug rim is the number of lugs.... I don't think they changed anything else on them?

725 miles to get there / 2 hours drive = 362.5 mph!!! HOLY CR@P! Sounds like that Z71 has a little something extra under the hood! Kidding, I guess you were exagerating. Either way, I just read your build from start to finish like everyone else. Pretty impressive. Looks like the gas tank/filler worked out nice. I love the color.

My parents live in southwest NY, where I grew up my first 18 years. I moved to SC in '99 for college and never left. My 58 apache is still in NY. After college I moved to Greenville, SC in 2004. I have an uncle in Lexington, SC (2 hours from greenville) where I did all of the work on the '67. Lexington, SC is near Columbia, SC.

Re: Not another build thread! Progress on my '67
Anyway, I was able to get one door painted on the inside and the door jam when we had a warm streak in January. The weather has NOT cooperated the past 3 weekends and this coming weekend looks to be no different. I hope to get the PS painted within a month or so I tossed the door panel on for "looks." I didn't use my new clips yet so I wouldn't ruin them. It's only held on by the door and window regulators and the armrest screws. I plan on dying them medium blue with white in the middle. The speaker kick panels will be white as well.
I positioned the kick panels the best I could and got them installed. They look OK. The fit COULD have been MUCH better. The stereo sounds really good now with the front speakers and the small boxes behind the seat. After a few months my used S-10 door seals are finally almost soft enough to close the door without killing it! The glovebox door will be textured black with silver around the edge and I have the "custom" emblem with the bowtie on it. I don't care if it didn't come with my truck, I think it looks cool I have some white face gauges to match the sunpro gauges too. I also spent almost all of last saturday putting the new ACC carpet in. I think it looks great. I need to get some Chevy mats to keep mud off of it now. It's getting there. All that's left is to respray the dash and PS door (spray can) dye the door panels, and spray line the bed. COME ONE WARM WEATHER! (It's 49 today ) edit: I have a lot more to do than I originally thought...

I also installed some new seatbelts. Didn't take a pic of them. They're charcoal grey. They look nice in the truck and work well. They got tested today I love 3 point seatbelts!

Looks great man. I only have to drive about an hour to work on mine and all I've done is swap my 3/4 ton down to a 1/2 ton with 5 lugs. I've got my 40/20/40 02 avalanche seats in and I'm about to get the tilt column in. Oh, I did get my hood sanded and primed...

I have always made this a requirement in the cars I build for myself. I always leave at least one thing not finished to aviod what just happened to you. I have always believed that once you are finished with a project, you are truly finished. BOOM! Personally I think that a force is telling you to change something, and at this point I believe it is your rear bumper. Maybe the 67-72 truck gods noticed a flaw in your rear bumper and this is thier way of telling you that you needed to change it... who knows??? All kidding aside, yuck, that sucks. (I look at accidents differently than most people, I see money where they see headache. ) I love the truck and the color is a perfect match. I hope to see more more pics of it as you finish the details. Someday maybe our trucks will be sitting side by side in a car show and I would hate for mine to be outshown by such a beautiful truck! BTW, I love your blue interior, esp the carpet. That is a color that is VERY hard to bring together correctly for the interior. (kind of like red... yuck, I can't stand red interior, no matter what the outside looks like. Might as well put in orange carpet and paint the truck bright green.... (shudder)) Most would have opted for grey or black interior. Love it. Later, D
