Need expanation of dash harness diffs between 72 truck and 72 burb

Ignition wiring in my 72 burb shorted and detroyed switch and harness connector. I have a 72 truck harness to replace it with. Main question is rear light wiring. Trucks connect on the firewall and run along framerails. Burbs connect (i'm not sure where) and run up thru pillar and along driver side roof. What incompatibilities am I in for? Is it plug and play (brn, yellow lt green and dk green use same male connector as trucks), or would you suggest just spicing the ignition wires on existing harness to a new connector and use new switch?

FYI, burb is in CT and I'm in NH so I can't go look for myself right now, so please help.

Jeff, about half of the trucks I have parted out had shorted or dryrotted harnesses running back to the tailights. With that thought in mind, could the burb harness running back thru the roof also be on the verge?? I might just splice into the replacement dash harness you put in or I would run a real good truck 4 wire back the same way the trucks do and then have it enter the rear portion of the burb tub using all sorts of rubber silicon to minimize shorting. At least this way, should you have a problem in the future, you can see it and probably splice/repair it easier and quicker. Just my .02~~Huck

Hi Jeff, the connection is there. I am 99% sure it is the same plug-in for the trucks and burbs. It will be somewhere near your wiper motor since that is where the truck's connect to the tail light harness.

If I had to splice something, I guess I would rather splice the tail light wires than the ignition switch wires. Unless you are good at soldering the connections and use shrink tube to cover it. Anything else will just cause you greater headaches down the road.

Jeff,

We still have our Burb in pieces. If you would like pics of the hookup, let me know.

I had that Ign Sw short problem on my '68 stepside. I replaced the ignition switch connector assembly with a pigtail [p/n 36-0614] from LMC. Cost about 18 bucks. Wire guage sizes and color code were correct. I used crimp connectors and bound it up with silicon vulcanizing hi-temp tape.
