IF your looking for an engine to rebuild, and looking for dollars verses smiles, (or $ vrs H.P.) You can not go wrong with a small block, and you will also never beat a small block.
That is onless you find an idiot who has no idea what a 427 is, and they'll give it to you for free just to clear up the corner of the garage since there kid ain't gonna do anything with it. |

Good point. 366 and tall deck 427 engines pretty much blow, onless you wanna drop 10K into them.

BB for you
Hey shadetree I got the oringnal 402 that come out of Big Orange and I'm not to far from you,the engine run great just had some miles on it and I had the other BB to build to go in it,
I'll take 500.00 for it. All it needs is the brackets for the frontend of it,I even have the Qjet that came on it and hei,let me know what you think.I'm in upper SC

The 366's suck. Stay away from them. But the 427 tall deck is one of the best platforms for a great engine. Even on a budget. The TD 427 with a 454 crank, .4 longer rods, and .110 over 454 pistons makes 477 cubic inch. the only drawback to the tall deck is the price of after market manifolds and distributers. And also do not use the stock heads, the ones that came on the tall deck. Also in a 67-72 4x4 application, they give you a little nore room to mount headers, but also ride closer to brake booster and ac unit if the truck has it. most 427 TD's are 4 bolts, and are drilled for oil coolers. With stroker cranks they can be built to 550 cubic inches, I built mine for under 5 grand.

If you put a Big Block in it,youll wonder why you didnt along time ago.and all your future ride projects will probably end up with them.the $300 deal is a steal if it runs,i sell rebuilders for $250 if Big Oranges runs $500 is a good deal.the spendy part it the brackets and pulleys if you want short water pump stuff,if you dont care about originality look put on long pump i sell that stuff,AC,PS,Alt,Pulleys for $125 just the PS pump without brackets for short pump cost more than that
