A/C cab vs. Non A/C cab

What are the differences between an a/c cab & a non a/c cab? I have a 1969 non a/c GMC & I'm looking at a 1970 a/c chevy cab for patch parts in the firewall & kick panel areas. Will this work for me or will I have problems.

Post some pics of your cab damaged areas. You should be able to buy all the patch panels you need with out tearing a A/C cab apart. But they are almost 100% the same with very few differances. But piucs would help.

Re: A/C cab vs. Non A/C cab

Kevin,
I temporarily patched the worst of the holes with galvanized tin a couple of weeks ago. I had water coming inside onto the fuseblock & could feel wind at my feet going down the highway. The hollow area below the cowl panel was full of cedar needles & held water & rusted out the seam behind the dash on the driver /passenger sides. The blower motor area is rusted out with a gaping hole on the firewall. I discovered it when I replaced the heater core. The PO also stuffed the kick panels full of carpet padding. The kick panel vents are very rusted out! I can get some patch panels, but not for all my problem areas.

i have the exact same problem. i cant offer any real help on the problem but just letting you know someone else feels your pain. my kick panel vents fell out! i took the cowling off and in both corners i have large holes. the pass one rotted out the new glove box liner and the driver one drips on the headlight switch and shorts it out, (im on number 3) and then onto the fuse box. i have a 69 ac cab and can post what pics i have if need be.

Guy if it were me with that much rust I would just look for a new cab that is in better shape than what you have now. Some times it is money ahead to just replace it. I do alot of rust repair for people but even I got a new cab instead of dealing with all the rust problems that were found in my own cab. I still ended up replacing rockers and corners but that was it. Just my .02!

Re: A/C cab vs. Non A/C cab

Is there anything different on the firewall between the a/c vs/ non a/c cabs. I know an a/c cab has 3 vents more than the non a/c cab. Is there any thing else different? Thanks, David
