250 split manifold question

Have any of you sent your exhaust manifold off to be split? I am researching ways to get duals on my 250 and found a place that will split, weld, grind, high temp paint and return ups for $185 with the option to keep the factory heat riser. Lowest I've seen the stovebolt cast headers is $259 and clifford truck headers run around $340. Any comments or suggestions for low price duals would be appreciated. What did you go with and why?
Craig

Re: 250 split manifold question

Hedman makes a set of long tube headers for about $150ish.

Re: 250 split manifold question

Kansas Kustoms doesn't do that anymore on the 250's. I think he couldn't guarantee the quality anymore. Check it out for yourself.

I'm actually probably going with the Clifford headers and would sell my Stovebolt split exhaust if you're interested.

Re: 250 split manifold question

Brad you're way ahead of me on Kansas Kustoms. I called them today and if I had read your post first I would have known not to bother. Are you not happy with the stovebolt exhaust? I'm looking into the hedman headers right now but would consider your stovebolt if the price is right. How much with shipping to 33618. Also can I get some pics of you full exhaust? What mufflers are you running? Thanks
Craig

Re: 250 split manifold question

I would not personally recommend the long tube headers for these. I had a set for my old 250 before I sold her off and they hung WAY LOW. You only had a few inches of ground clearance. If you plan to lower the truck, I wouldn't recommend them. But this is just coming from me, I would ask for a second opinion.

Re: 250 split manifold question

They hang low and will scrape if you've got your truck lowered. I like the Stovebolt headers and there's nothing wrong with them, and they'll last longer than me due to being thick wall cast-iron, but I like the looks of the Clifford headers better and will go with them.

Re: 250 split manifold question

The Cliffords on mine are up in the frame................The one that lower may hang down 3" if that, but I still have loads of ground clearance, I don't think they'd be a problem on a stock 4x2.

I agree, the Cliffords just give the impression you have "MORE" engine
