Re: 67 hood on 71?
You will need the 67-68 core support, fenders and hood to complete the transformation.

Re: 67 hood on 71?
The hoods are a different length.I have seen a 71 with the hood pie cut and leaned back like the 67-68 hoods. It looked good and was something only someone who knew would notice. If it looks like the factory did it that way it's usually a goood modIMHO.

Are you referring to this look? Its not my truck, just a picture from my collection. I thought about doing it until I located an early front clip.

Re: 67 hood on 71?
I think what cooters was asking is a trick that most people would not due because of the amount of work involved. It involves taking a 67-68 hood and shorting the leading edge to the length of a 69-72 and it can and has been done. Their was a burb that had this mod and it looked nice but so does doing the pie section to a 69-72. The only thing with doing a pie section is people that know what they are looking at can see that it is the corect hood just tweaked abit. As with the 67-68 hood on a 69-72 front end should not be able to fit at all so people are not quite sure what took place. Even when you lay the front of a 69-72 back to the same slope as a 67-68 their is still alot of differances between the two. Look at the distance from the front side edge of the hood to where the body line curves up to the upper front slope and you will see the differance between the two hoods. A 67-68 has a longer "ramp" than a 69-72. Yes the core supports are different but only in the head light mounting area and the hood latch. With a few simple mods you can take a 69-72 core support and remove the head light bucket and use that support on a 67-72. But to use a 67-68 on a 69-72 you must fins these head light buckets and weld them on. Keep in mind that chevy was cheap and wanted to use the same basic part for as long as they could and this is good for all of us. Hope this all makes sence!

Re: 67 hood on 71?
Can you document the cutting and welding process? I'd like to see the outcome.

Re: 67 hood on 71?
For those that have not noticed the side differance between the two styles here is a white 67 and a brown 70 to compair. I may have to do the 67 hood on my 70 for my "Low buck truck build" thread it would be fun

Re: 67 hood on 71?
Yeh this is the one I was thinking of. I was out looking at some of the hoods that I have and it would not be all that bad depending on how you went about it. Problem is what looks like the easy way to put a 67-8 hood on a 69+ will take two hoods (one of each) but that is not a big deal if you have several laying around right

Re: 67 hood on 71?
I asked about the hood in another thread but this brings up a new question...
Other than the marker lights, is there any real difference between the early and later fenders? ----EDIT--- Nevermind, I see can the difference now in post #12

Re: 67 hood on 71?
It`s simple to do this on a GMC.Bolt a 67-68 hood on your 69/72 and eliminate the brows and top bar...done.

Re: 67 hood on 71?
This has really got me thinking. I realize the fenders on the 71 GMC are the same as 67-68's, but the hood is like the 69-72 Chevy's, where does the transition take place.

Re: 67 hood on 71?
There was an issue of Classic Trucks where they showed the entire process of removing the front brace on a 69-72 Chevy hood. Then they pie cut two inches around the front of the hood. Then they tampered the cut on the sides of the hood. Meaning pie cut all they way back,,, almost to about four inches from the back of the hood. What they did is made a 69-72 hood look like a 67-68 hood.

Re: 67 hood on 71?
In`69 when the hoods changed,GMC added the eyebrow trim to the fender front edgeds and riveted a surround piece (top bar) to the top of the grille to fill the gap.The `68-70 grilles are the same, other than the top bar on the 69/70s.You could swap any year GMC grille around between 67-72.The only thing that seperates the`67 from the 68/70 grilles is the`67 has GMC stamped in it.

Re: 67 hood on 71?
The`67s didn`t have a top bar or surround trim.I know that. The rest is true.I was just answering how this could work with the gap compared to a Chevy. Not the entire swap, good info.
