Thanks everyone. I got on it a bit this weekend and all I can say is

As for the 61, it's tied up till April... (don't ask) But it WILL be completed! So, I think the Burb may just have to become a Tahoe in the mean time...

Very nice build thread. Thanks for the pics.

Love the 3 mechanics-in-the-making training program. Can tell they're a handfull, but having a blast.

Just did virtually the same thing to my C-10. Pulled a tired 66 396 and replaced it with a 454.

.100" overbore on a 454 seems like a lot to me. Is that safe? What was the cylinder wall thickness after the overbore?

Noticed one thing though that you may want to think about. They'll be fine for a while but 476 Cubes pushing through those necked down primary tubes on your headers is a definite choke point unless it's a very low RPM motor with peanut port heads. I'd bet you'll pick up quite a bit of HP by going with larger headers.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty darn happy with it! Scheduled to have it tuned by a shop with the proper instruments/experience today.

I love six bangers too Brad. With all those goodies and a 5-speed I bet yours runs sweet.

mnunn: You can take a 454 over by up to 125 if the initial wall thickness allows. Here's a quote from a superchevy article:

"Another notable find the first year was a 454 big-block Chevy block that had cylinder walls over about 400-thousandths thick. This made a perfect candidate for a .125-overbore using KB hypereutectic pistons and boosting inches to 482."

I do agree about the headers though. They are cheap no-name full length headers that will be replaced by 3/4 lengthers when I go to the magnaflow system.

American Wire Gauge I ran without it for a while (with stock wire), but the HEI draws more current and should have a bigger wire accordingly. The drawbacks are that you can burn up the stock wire and/or the coil with undergauged wire.

No clearance issues. I suppose you could have exhaust fitment issues if you went from normal BBC mounts to this set-up. I didn't because I re-did the exhaust when I put this motor in.
