coil problem
Hello,
I have ignition or charging circuit problems with my 68 C-10 Truck. In fact, after a few minutes runing the coil become very hot,the engine stop and it's impossible to restart. What do you think about this problem ? What about to use a ballast resistor, my truck has no. Is stock truck have one ? How to place it ? I change the regulator by an old 64 Chevelle one, it seems to be the same, is it ok ? Is there different type of external regulator on 68 V8 trucks ? Thanks for your help. David |

i believe all the external regulators are all the same for chevy's and as for the coil getting hot that means bad coil, the chevy trucks use a built in ballast resistor in the coil or resistor wire from the fuse block i think. hope this helps

Dave...first of all, welcome to the board from the center of the universe...well, center of Ohio anyways...Now, onto your troubles.
Are you running the old points, or you upgraded to an HEI yet? If you have points with the external coil, you NEED the resistor. If you have HEI, you need to remove the resistor. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. David...coils are filled with oil to keep them cool. It's my guess that the oil has at some point leaked out of your coil, or there is an internal problem with the coil. In my honest opinion, I'd replace the coil, and I'll bet that takes care of your problem.
