Question Windshield Wiper Problem Help?

tried to hook up wiper motor to day and had the battery disconnected. When I re-attach the battery the wiper posts move. Disconnected battery again. So I thought turn the switch all the way to the left and re-connect the battery. I did and the posts move. Have I connected the arms under the cowl opening incorrectly and it's trying to pull itself apart. Or was the wiper motor in the wrong cycle when I put the arms on?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

they are self parking with the switch off so it could have just been in the wrong cycle.

just turn them on and see,you really can't bind anything up you should be able to see them cange directions when they are on.before you put the wiper arms on turn the switch on and let run a second, then turn off let them park and then put the wiper arms on, that way they will sit parelle with the winshield gasket and they won't goto far either way. hope this helps.
