Need some info on a '99 sierra
I have been shopping around for a truck recently and came across a '99 Sierra that I'm interested in.
Were the '99 model year all Vortec motors and not LSX base? What displacements were there? KBB only states 5.0 and 5.7, but I know those sites are pretty general. Did they make the 5.3 in that year? This ad that I'm looking at doesn't specify what motor it's got, but the truck is a 1500 Club Cab 4WD truck. What motor would you "guess" it would have? I have yet to call the dealer that has the truck, but I figured you guys would probably know more about them than the dealer would be able to tell me over the phone, and the truck is a couple hundred miles away....

The 99 "classic" had the Vortec 5.0 or 5.7. These trucks are the holdover 98 models. The newer body style trucks all had LSX engines in them. The picture is an LSX engine. They were (are) available in 4.8 and 5.3 V8's, as well as a 4.3 V6.

That picture is either a 5.3 or a 4.8.

I ended up picking up a black '99 sierra SLE. She's only got 88K miles on the clock and runs like a champ! I've also already logged on to fullsizechevy and gmfullsize.com. So far I'm loving this 5.3, and I can only imagine how she'll run after I turn my tuner loose on it here pretty soon...

Watch for the common issues on 99-01 trucks like faulty fuel sending units, ABS sensors and sticky Ext Cab doors (if you have an Ext Cab of course) |

Re: Need some info on a '99 sierra
I hooked up with a tuner locally when I had my LT1 caprice wagon. Since he tuned that car, he's tuned my dad's '97 crewcab dually and my brother's '97 suburban. Next time he's in town we're Datalogging my truck and tuning it via HPTuners. Then we're doing my wife's ecotec cavalier, my dad's 4.3 S10 blazer, and his GTO.
We're addicted i guess... LOL

Re: Need some info on a '99 sierra
Off the subject, but how does your dad like the GTO? I am looking into picking one up, as they are all over the place down here. I really have my heart set on a CTS-V, but I have been thinking about checking out the GTO's as well. I drove a TrailBlazer SS when I bought my Tahoe, and was a little disappointed in it. I do know that my next vehicle will have an LS2 in it, just not sure which one yet.

Re: Need some info on a '99 sierra
My dad's is an '04 and only has the LS1 in it, but it's still plenty fun to drive. You'll find out what you need to change quick. My only complaints so far is the stock shifter (sloppy) and wheel hop. Both can easily be fixed with the GMM Ripshift short throw and a set of drag bags or poly rear LCA bushings.

Re: Need some info on a '99 sierra
Yeah, I think having that powertrain in two completely different vehicles makes the big difference
CTS-V: Weight: 3850 pounds HP: 400 Gear: 3.73 Trailblazer SS: Weight: 4680 pounds HP: 395 Gear: 4.10 For me, I could use a $32K 2wd Trailblazer SS much more than a $51K 4 door since I don't already have an SUV sitting at home I love them both - the V series lineup from Cadillac is a great thing for sure |

Re: Need some info on a '99 sierra
There really isn't a huge price difference in the two, if you find a certified Cadillac. The TB SS that we have here has a $7000 (!) market adjustment on it, and there are quite a few Certified used CTS-V's locally that are in the upper $30K range, with under 2000 miles on them. I am having trouble justifying the price of either one, right now. I curently have a 2003 CTS, and it is an OK car, but an extra 200 or so HP really seems to make it a lot more fun. While it is a lot of fun to look at new cars, the reality is that I will probably have to wait until next year when I have used up the warranty on my current car to get something else, unless there are some insane cash back deals coming up on Trailblazers......

Re: Need some info on a '99 sierra
Yeah, I don't know much about the used/certified car market. Plus, the financing tends to me much more on a used car note than a new car.
You get much more than the 200HP with the V series for the extra $$. High 30s is a great price for what you get for sure |

Re: Need some info on a '99 sierra
They are a truly awesome car. I got one as close to home as in front of the house, but it was quickly veto'ed. Of course, she has the new car.....
