HEI questions.

I was thinking of going with HEI on my truck. I originally was going to u-pull-it and getting one cheap & while asking different people what is a good one to get it was mentioned about 4 pin or 8 pin? I think he was referring to the electric module.
Is there a better one to look for when pulling it yourself or maybe one to stay away from?
I seen this one mentioned by Oscar (fleet72) http://store.summitracing.com/partde...autoview=skuis Is this a good one? seems reasonable, but u-pull-it has them for $20.

Re: HEI questions.

hey dean..you want a model from like 74 -84 i think on a gm dizzy. 85 and after they started using computer controlled dizzys..
they had a extra plug in on them..i heard you could use them. but had to do some rewiring. i have no clue on that..

easier to just avoid them is my thought..
i have seen them on ebay for as little as 50.00 new
heres a picture of the correct model you need..

remember to change to a new power wire from the fuse box as the old resistor wire won't supply full 12 volts thats needed to power up the new dizzy

Re: HEI questions.

Stay with the 4 pin cause the 5 pins and up are electronically controlled by the computer. Yeah it's the modules they are talking about. You can get one off e-bay for $50.

Re: HEI questions.

White Performance sells one on ebay that is very good. They have also been great to deal with. $50, but all I could find was the clear model. I think he still has red as well.

Re: HEI questions.

wow, at 50 bucks, its hard to justify a junk yard unit... even a Cheap SOB like myself would REALLY consider the new unit there.

yea i have two new units in the garage..still in the boxes. as much as i mess with engines. i have a box of old ones two. i guess i should get rid of the old ones. i like making oil pump primers out of them..

i guess i would have better luck selling them that way now.

I talked to white performance and they are expecting the red cap units Monday. So I’ll order one when they arrive. $44 bucks not too bad!
Thanks for the lead.

I just got the very same email. I need to replace the one I have because those are cheaper than rebuilding. How wrong is that?

There are a few people on this board that have gotten them and they all seem very happy.
