Very Sad!!

Well today I am going to have to sell my 4x4's. I recently had a lower back injury where I crushed 2 discs and as much as I try to convince myself that I can do it,it just hurts too bad to ride in these.Man this SUCKS!! I just got my 76 K20 home too.But being able to play with my son is more important to me. Just want to say thanks for all the help and props-you guys here are great! Now I will be building my 69's(2wd of course).

Re: Very Sad!!

Ever thought of looking into Mastercraft suspension seats? may be enough of a help to let you keep wheeling.

Re: Very Sad!!

I'd agree with some suspension seats, but changing out the springs would also be needed. It's either BDS or Deaver. I'd say deaver as they would do it custom to your specs. Deavers typically use twice as many leafs, but they are half the thickness of the stockers. They can really tweak the spring rate and from what I've read, ride like a caddy (soft). It would be smart to go with an adjustable shock that you can dial up the soft side.

The plus side to deavers is you will have some awesome flex for stock length springs. Downside is cost. One alternative would be to modify the front end to accept 52" springs from the rear of a 1/2 ton truck or K5. Then going with a shackle flip and 56" springs in the back (if your K20 doesn't already have 56"s). Longer flatter springs can still give a similar amount of lift as stock 4" lift springs, but the benifit is the flatter springs ride softer. This option would be more labor intensive though. Might want to hit up CK5.com for the skinny on the 52" swap.

Re: Very Sad!!

Before you have surgery look up DRX9000 online and see if there is a doctor near you that uses one. It is a machine that does computer generated tracion on specific vertabrae. I wasn't going to let anyone cut on my back to many horror sories. Really helped me with the pain.Good luck...Rick

Re: Very Sad!!

I don't want to be the one to state the obvious but I will...it's just a truck, a hunk of steel. Be comfortable and pain free with a newer truck with a smooth ride, cup holders heated seats etc. If it comes down to that. It is sad as you say but there are worse scenarios. Good luck

Re: Very Sad!!

I have have had one surgery and was supposed to get another in 95 but I passed. I do ok. Running Tuff Country heavy dutys and Rancho 9000's. Super Swampers have about 23 lbs of air in them. My biggest problem is getting in. I don't like steps hanging down.
