hey anybody know the best way to put speakers into 72 2500? I have a brand new fullspeed iPod head unit that i'm gonna mount either in the glove box or under the dash but i need speakers and im not sure what to get. I'm also planning on getting subs and an amp. i looked at kickpanel speakers but i dont know how powerful those would be and how good they'd sound so if anybody has any suggestions that'd be great

6x9s in the doors but then you have to cut the doors. Under the seat but theres not much room. Behind the seat if the gas tank is out.

I havent had a chance to get measurements (sub zero weather) but i'm thinking i might mount some 4x6 speakers in the rear pillars like you would find in 88-98 chevy trucks.

I'm pretty sure the pillar is deep enough, and it would be really easy to use the plastic speaker covers from a 88-98 Chevy W/T.

A 2nd gen Cadillac Escalade rear sub/box might fit in the passenger can corner. Its a small sub, but ported excellently, fills the cabin of an Escalade with bass quite well. Imagine it in the cab. We might do that for my truck.

I have a 72 C20 with a post head unit from custom auto sound, kickpanels with 6.5" pioneers, dual voice coil 4X10 in the dash and 2 internally powered 6.5" Kenwood subwoofers under the seat. The subs are in their own box and the amp is built right in (see link below). I'm very happy with the sound but I was only looking for a good sounding system not mind boggling bass. Without the subs, it sounded like a tin can. This was also the only way I could cram 10 lbs of sh$% in a 5 lb bag. The only real problem I had was good grounds. i forgot to mention that i am also going to mount 4x6 plates under the dash, like newer vehicles. figure i can weld some studs to bolt the speakers underneath to keep them hidden.

Roddoors has templates, to make uniform holes in the dash.

for a sub box u may be able to use mtx thunder form just without a subwoofer behind the seat(if you relocate your gastank) they are a plastic enclosure vehicle specific that is meant to fit under or behind your seat and if they dont make one for a 72 which chances are they dont u could get a rear wall mount one from say a F-150 and just get that to work as long as it is as close to the wall as possible. as for your speakers a really neat idea i saw in one of my Truckin' magazines was someone who took the factory speaker steel plate in the top of the dash cut that out and weld it on one side and got another one and put it in the other side and filled in the hole that was left over. one problem with this is that u will have to do some modifications to your glove box pocket and watch what your doing around your gauges cause some magnets could mess with your needles

I have a 10" sub and 600 watt amp behind the seat. Then a kenwood component system with tweeters on the top of the dash and 5 1/2"? mids in the doors.

hey i found a set of pioneer shallows that when you buy their box its only 3 inches deep and apparently peaks out at 500 watts which is pretty damn good for that small. I think im either gonna go with putting something in the rear pillars and in the dash or kickpanels cuz i dont really want to cut holes into my doors but if I have to I might end up doing so. I have an 89 chevy with alpine S types in the pillars and 2 bazooka tubes behind the seat and it sounds alright but i can't use those subs cuz they wont fit. The only problem with these shallow subs is they're not pre amped so i'll have to buy an amplifier and jam it in there somehow but i'll get it done for this summer. (my truck is parked for the winter cuz theres a tranny leak)

I have a 69. My gas tank is out and the bench is gone. Buckets are coming.

I'll be mounting the 12" subs and the amp in the back where the tank was. I hope to mount two pairs of coaxial woofers (one 5-1/4" and one 6") both in the custom made kick panels and a pair of tweeters where the A-pillars meet the dash pad. Head unit will go in the traditional place with an MP3 player either in the center or an overhead console.

I chose not to put any woofers in the doors (though there's plenty of room) because the occupants' legs are directly in the sound path.

I'm also planning to double up on the square feet of sound deadning materials used.
