4wd question

Can you take a 205 from a 4-speed and, with the correct adapter, put the 205 behind a TH350? I say no, but my brother says yes, so I was curious.

Re: 4wd question

Ok,this will help you:
Anyway, just FYI, there are 4 different input designs for the 205 in GM trucks that I know of.
Your best bet is to get a 205 that was originally behind whatever transmission you're planning on running.

Here's the input/trans combos that I know of;

205 Input Trans
10 spline male SM465 4 speed
27 spline male TH350 Auto
32 spline female, (short) TH400
32 spline female, (long) Later model 4 speed? (Not sure if these are still the SM465 and the "long" female input may have also been behind some TH400 transmissions? Not to familiar with the "long" input.

Here's some more;
the 10 spline and 27 spline male input 205's use a smaller input bearing than the 32 spline female input.
So, for example, if you were going to run a 4 speed, (10 spline), or a TH350 trans, (27 spline), the 32 spline input 205 cannot be used. You can't change the input to the smaller bearing inputs because the hole in the case for the bearing is to big.
Now on the other hand, if you were to go the other way around, you can always have the smaller bearing hole machined out to fit the larger input bearing.

Re: 4wd question

the 4 different input gears for the NP 205 transfer case.
Right to left:
short 32 spl
long 32 spl
10 spl
27 spl

You bro is right, just swap the 10 spline unit for the 27 spline and Git 'er done!
You will need a K-case th350 with the rear adaptor on the tail.
