1989 tilt column........will it fit in a 1978?
I have been doing projects on 67-72 trucks for a while now and had the opportunity to score a 1978 loaded Silverado 4x4 with 73K actual miles!! what a nice truck...anyway it doesn't have a tilt column and I have a chance to get a nice tilt out of an 89 suburban...will it fit? what mods do I have to do if not? Thanks for your advice in advance, since it's my first foray into this generation of chevy trucks!!

Physically it will bolt right in, But I read a while back about a guy doing this type swap and the ignition and turn signal switch plugs were different on the later column, He ended up re-doing the harness plugs.
LMC breaks the switches 73/87. Just something to make sure of before you purchase.

Also note that your truck has the wiper switch on the dash, and the headlight switch on the floor, while the 89 will have both on the signal light stalk. It can be done, but expect to change some wiring around...

Hmmm.........good points on the wiring. I wonder if the 89 also has intermittant wipers on it? I would imagine a guy would need to get the wiper motor to match though. this might be an interesting project.....or I can hold for an earlier model tilt

Other than the above listed wiring issues, it will physically bolt in, especially if it came out of a burb.

I would get an earlier model tilt for ease of installation...they are plentiful around here and on ebay.
