I have most of my truck in bare metal, and all the welding is done, so now I need to do some minor filling. I am using the yellow filler with the blue hardener. It dries a lime green color, but I can't think of the name. It's like Rage Gold. Anyways, I was wondering if I apply it to the bare metal, or if I have to prep it with something first? It is on the roof top and rear, the lower body like the cab corners, etc. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Just scuff and clean the metal and apply. Rage Gold is good stuff.

the rougher the body, the better the stick. Prep area with 40 grit for best bite

Remember rust is happening weather you see it or not, so make sure to 40, or 80 grit where the mud is going.

Yep everyone is spot on so far...I would just wipe it down really well with some autobody prep cleaner then scuff with 80-grit or coarser, wipe down again, then slap on the mud...

Not to go against the grain, but...

If you're down to bare metal, might as well put an epoxy primer on it. This will seal the metal very well preventing further corrosion, and you can apply filler over it.

If I remember right after I sandblasted everything we put on a coat of some neutralizer stuff, cant remember what it was really, i think it was bluish/greenish. Then epoxy primer. But that was for the entire cab, so you might be fine if its just some spots.

i would put either epoxy primer or etching primer to seal the bare steel to prevent any rust or corrosion from happeneing, but you should be able to just scuff it and pud the mud right on the steel like all have said, goodluck with it
