tranny fluid level
ive got a TH350 transmission its got some sorta double clutch or somthing in it. It was rebuildt about 5000 miles previously wen i got it out of a recently crashed car and it has a slight leak in fluid but always shows over the full mark latly, and makes a clunk sound wen i put it in any gear. So i was just wondering what might make it show so high on the dip stick, and what it is that makes the clunk sound

you are checking the fluid level while the engine is running, and normal operating temp, right?
Might seem like a stupid question, But you'd be surprised how many people check it when off, and wonder why it's over full.

check your driveline ujoints for the clunking noise or maybe a crack flexplate

i have a th350 and it was rebuilt right when i got the truck and it has always made a clunking sound when put into gear, its not gona be quite like a new car its gona make some noise, and my fluid shows over the line aswell, so maybe either the fluid you see is either oil or its just not enough of a leak to make a difference, just check it now and then and dont let it go under

I would seriously consider fixing that leak you speak of,usually pretty easy to do if it's not the dreaded front seal leak. Also,you should definately check those u-joints. Put it in neutral,crawl under there and twist hard on the drive shaft and check for ANY play in each joint. Pretty easy fix there too.

my truck always makes a clunk noise even when the tranny fluid is full, but mine also leaks and I've replaced the pan gasket like 3 times it usually solves the problem for a month and then its leaking again so i'm trying it again this spring and hopefully it wont leak again. but i wouldnt worry about that clunk if I were you because like that other guy said these are old trucks. start to worry when its not going into reverse, or shifting out of 1st gear. lol, thats never a good sign.

72GMC,I used to run a couple trans shops. Make sure the pan is really flat before installation.Look at the area around each bolt hole.If there is a raised area (looking at the inverted pan) pound these out on a flat surface so that the sealing surface is very flat.These are from someone over torquing the pan bolts Then when you torque the bolts,only tighten them to 119 inch lbs.. Then in a week or two check re-tighten then to about this torque and I guarantee you won't have a pan leak for a long time.
