pics of my broken rear

i got home from work early today and decided to go for a short ride. well i made it .6 miles from home and just had to smoke them up, it sounded like a gun shot when it went. at least i was close to home for the push, but all the neighbors asking what happened...i the them and they give me a blank look...what is a rear end they ask as i just kept on pushing it home.....

the truck has 450hp and i am sure it is putting 400 to the ground, do you guys think a well put together 10 bolt with eaton gears and a locker will hold up or should i just get a new rear? i am trying to hold off on the rear because i dont know what i want to do with the truck next...tub it out, mini tub it or what and dont want to do the rear 2 times, if i am have a decent rebuild on this 10 bolt and then do it right when i can that would be great..
thanks
dave

Re: pics of my broken rear

Wow, that kinda sucks. If I was running 450 hp. I would put a 12 bolt under my truck.

Re: pics of my broken rear

i will have currie build me a 9" but dont want to spend the money now and decide in 6 months exactly what i want to do with the truck and have to rebuild the rear again. i am hoping to get this one back in shape for a 6-12 month time frame and then do the rear once the way i want it done.

Re: pics of my broken rear

What year 10-bolt is it? The reason is, there are a few different ring gear sizes (8.25 and 8.50), and the larger ones are stronger and there are alot more aftermarket parts available. I used to shun the 10 bolts, but I have seen some (when built right) take some unbelievable abuse. If you're going to possibly change over the rear to a 9" later, you could maybe find a used 10-bolt until then and maybe not do as many burnouts. I had Currie narrow a 9" for my '55, and it'll be one thing I won't have to worry about when I throw the horsepower at it.

I would think a 10 bolt in a pickup, and not using slicks, really ought to hold up. The ultimate of course would be a 12 bolt or a Ford 9".

Re: pics of my broken rear

I agree, I may use a 12 bolt in my '88 IROC someday if my Borg Warner 9bolt ever dies. But as far as my '54 pick up, my 10 bolt will do fine for my mild 300 h.p. V8.

i am thinking 9" or 8.8 for my '52 after today.... the 10 bolt under it may stay till its built but will find its way to the scrap yard soon enough
